Patent number: 7016348Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for providing web audio content directly from audio processors to a telephone without requiring storage of the audio on a media server. In one embodiment, a switch and two stages of switching are used. The switch is coupled between at least one audio source and a network interface controller. A direct access controller is coupled to the audio sources, switch and network interface controller. The direct access controller establishes a first audio channel through the switch in a connection phase. The direct access controller establishes a second audio channel through the switch in an audio transport phase. In the audio transport phase, web audio content is transported directly from a remote web server to an audio source on the second audio channel and then from the audio source to the user of the telephone on the first audio channel.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2001Date of Patent: March 21, 2006Assignee: IP UnityInventors: Arthur I. Laursen, David Israel

Patent number: 6847618Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for distributed conference bridge processing in Voice over IP telephony. A distributed conference bridge multi-casts mixed audio content of a conference call in a way that reduces replication work at the mixing device. A switch is coupled between one or more audio sources and a network interface controller. A conference call agent is used to establish and end a conference call. The switch can be a packet switch or a cell switch. In one embodiment, a distributed conference bridge is implemented in a media server.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2001Date of Patent: January 25, 2005Assignee: IP UnityInventors: Arthur I. Laursen, David Israel, Donald A. Stanwyck

Patent number: 6545982Abstract: A multi-port packet-based bridge is described in which packet transmissions on particular ports or between ports may be monitored on another, monitoring port. Efficient operation is realized by using a multi-processor environment and data structures that allow a packet received on one port to be transmitted to multiple ports without being “copied” multiple times. By using a Supervisory Access Terminal, it is possible to specify various circumstances under which a packet will be sent to the monitoring port. These circumstances include monitoring of all packets incoming to a selected port (or ports), all packets forwarded to a selected port (or ports), and packets generated internally and sent to a selected port (or ports). In addition, all packets forwarded from one selected port to another selected port may be monitored.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 1996Date of Patent: April 8, 2003Assignee: Marconi Communications Technology, Inc.Inventors: Manohar Murthy, John F. Wakerly, Arthur I. Laursen

Patent number: 4579406Abstract: A system for connecting printed circuit boards to card cages. In addition to a conventional pin-and-socket connector arrangement for making signal and main power connections, the printed circuit board has a conducting pad coupled to the power traces of the board. A clip mounted in the card cage and connected to a first power source isolated from the main power source engages the pad before the conventional connectors make contact. Thus, the board is powered up first. As the board is fully seated and the conventional power and signal connections made, the power clip slides off the pad to break contact, leaving the main power source supplying power to the board.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 1985Date of Patent: April 1, 1986Assignee: D.A.V.I.D.
