Abstract: A vehicle article carrier having a pair of slats and a cross bar which is removably securable to the slats at mounting portions formed on each of the slats. Each mounting portion includes an associated cover member which may be quickly and easily positioned in the mounting portion when the cross bar is not attached to its respective slat to thereby cover the mounting portion and provide a more aesthetically pleasing appearance to each of the slats. Several alternative preferred embodiments of the cover member are disclosed with each enabling the mounting portion of the slat to be quickly and easily covered and uncovered without the need for special tools or extensive assembly/disassembly steps.
