Patent number: 4333197Abstract: An ultrasonic toothbrush for use in personal dental hygiene care includes an elongated handle member in the form of a hollow housing having disposed therein a low voltage coil and cooperating ferrite core which is driven at ultrasonic frequencies. Affixed to the core is a brush member adapted to be received within the human mouth and moved across tooth and gingival surfaces. The brush member has been adhesively affixed to an impedance transfer device which in turn has been adhesively affixed to the core material. The impedance transfer device insures the maximum transfer of ultrasonic energy from the core material to the brush. The ultrasonic energy driving means for the core requires a relatively low voltage and permits the coil to be sealed in the handle impervious to contamination by water.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1980Date of Patent: June 8, 1982Inventor: Arthur Kuris

Patent number: 4192035Abstract: Apparatus for use in personal dental hygiene care comprising an elongated member formed at least in part of a piezoelectric member with a pair of contacting surfaces intermediate the respective ends thereof with a brush member adapted to be received within the human mouth and moved across tooth and gingival surfaces and extending from one end of the elongated member. A casing adapted to be held in the hand is provided and is of a length at least equal to the piezoelectric member and having an elongated bore adapted to receive the piezoelectric member of the elongated member therein. Sealing means in the bore to engage the elongated member in readily releasable and in a fluid-tight fashion is used.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1978Date of Patent: March 11, 1980Assignee: Ultrasonic Plaque Control Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: Arthur Kuris

Patent number: 4071385Abstract: The forming of an inlaid article by carving the object to be inlaid into the article with ultrasonic energy to form a recess having the same peripheral configuration as the object, and then positioning the object within the ultrasonically carved recess in the article such that upon securing the object within the recess the object forms the inlaid portion of the article.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1976Date of Patent: January 31, 1978Inventor: Arthur Kuris

Patent number: 4043084Abstract: Carving of perspective designs in transparent objects with ultrasonic abrasive slurry machining is obtained by using at least two tools each having a different configuration at the working surface and sequentially carving each tool in the object on a surface thereof in partially overlapping relation to each other at different depths. Means are provided wherein the object is sequentially advanced from tool to tool to be multiply carved with each carving being of a different depth than the prior carving to obliterate same and to present to the viewer a perspective carving when viewed from the opposite surface than the surface carved.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1976Date of Patent: August 23, 1977Inventor: Arthur Kuris

Patent number: 4012647Abstract: The invention discloses various embodiments of an ultrasonic motor and converter adapted to be used in home or industrial ultrasonic devices. The ultrasonic motor is generally of a piezoelectric material having a removable tip or of a design in which the complete motor is contained in a housing, which housing has electrical contact means adapted to be plugged into an adapter which, in turn, is connected to a converter. The motor is designed such that frequency sensing means is provided therein and the feedback signal is utilized by the converter to adjust itself thereto. The converter includes tuned circuit means tuned to a band including a desired frequency for sustaining the vibration of said motor at the desired frequency.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1975Date of Patent: March 15, 1977Assignee: Ultrasonic Systems, Inc.Inventors: Lewis Balamuth, Arthur Kuris, Manuel Karatjas

Patent number: 3990512Abstract: This invention relates generally to petroleum well treatment and more particularly to improvement of production from earthen petroleum reservoirs of low permeability by fracturing the petroleum bearing strata. The present invention accomplishes this purpose by use of energy capsules that upon implosion produce acoustic waves as to cause the formation to undergo periodic stress beyond its elastic endurance limit and to fail by elastic fatigue.A plurality of energy capsules designed to implode at different hydrostatic pressures in order to release shock waves to produce a cavitational action in the areas adjacent to the well bore are transmitted in a fluid medium. The energy capsules may be utilized in conjunction with pressurized fluid that is oscillated such that the combined elements of a pressurized fluid system and the release of shock waves at spaced time intervals from the energy capsules is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 1975Date of Patent: November 9, 1976Assignee: Ultrasonic Energy CorporationInventor: Arthur Kuris
