  • Patent number: 7841241
Abstract: A SAW based pressure sensor having a base 2a with an aperture 3 formed therein and a substrate 4 mounted on the base so as to completely overlie the aperture. The substrate 4 is adhered to base 2a so as to form a fluid tight seal around the periphery of the aperture 3. A first SAW resonator 5 is mounted on the substrate 4 wholly within the region overlying the aperture 3, with two further SAW resonators 6, 7 being mounted on the substrate wholly within a region which is stiffened by adhesion to the underlying base 2a , such that the two further SAW resonators 6, 7 are completely decoupled from the strain field arising in the substrate due to deflections thereof.

  • Publication number: 20060197407
Abstract: A silicon or quartz wafer for forming a SAW device is the subject of grinding and lapping operation to form its basic shape. The opposing surfaces, as well as the edges extending therebetween, are the polished to reduce the number and size of defects in the surfaces. Metal is deposited onto one of the opposing surfaces which, in use, will be under compression, to form electronic components thereon, and a multi-metallic coating having an outer layer formed of gold is applied to the other surface to form a solder pad by means of which the wafer may be fastened to a shaft or the like by soldering. Martensitic stainless steel is used as a mount, saddle or housing for the SAW substrate.

  • Publication number: 20050225214
Abstract: A pressure monitor has a base and a lid secured to the base to define a substantially fluid tight chamber. At least part of the lid is flexible and forms a diaphragm which deflects responsive to changes in fluid pressure surrounding the monitor. A projection provided on the diaphragm transmits movement thereof to a distortable substrate located within the chamber. A first SAW device is mounted on the distortable substrate, and at least a second and third SAW device are mounted within the chamber. The second SAW device carried on a reference substrate section has its direction of propagation inclined at an angle to the direction of propagation of at least one of the first and third SAW devices. This way movement of the diaphragm induced by a change in pressure in the zone surrounding the monitor results in distortion of the distortable substrate, which is measurable by the SAW device mounted thereon, without distorting said reference substrate section.

  • Publication number: 20050017540
Abstract: A caravan having a lower body portion and an upper body portion with at least one hinge connecting the lower body portion to the upper body portion at one end of the caravan. The hinges connecting the upper and lower body portions allows the upper body portion to rotate relative to the lower body portion about an axis from a first position, where the upper body portion and the lower body portion are in close abutment, to a second position, where the upper body portion and the lower body portion have been rotated a predetermined distance about the hinge, so that the upper body portion is elevated above the lower body portion and no longer in close abutment to the lower body portion.
