  • Patent number: 6634889
Abstract: A socket connector and a card-edge is provided for electrical busses. In one embodiment, a socket is provided for electrical busses that require each end of the bus to be terminated that does not require a termination card. In another embodiment, a socket connector is provided for electrical busses that flow through several aligned socket connectors. The design of the socket connector connects a bus to termination resistors located on a circuit board of the socket connector by cross-connecting the signal through the signal pins inside the socket connector.

  • Patent number: 6088222
Abstract: A computer system includes a backplane printed circuit board and a peripheral device. The peripheral device is coupled to the backplane printed circuit board. The peripheral device is cradled within a chassis carrier. A grounding conductor is associated with the chassis carrier and peripheral device. A frame structure supports the chassis carrier. The frame structure includes peripheral device bays and split lances. The peripheral device bays are for receiving peripheral devices. One of the peripheral device bays includes the peripheral device and chassis carrier. The split lances are located on opposite internal sides of the frame structure for each peripheral device bay. Mounting rails may be coupled to the opposite internal sides of the frame over the split lances such that the split lances project through the mounting rails. The split lances electrically couple installed peripheral devices to ground, and locate and support the mounting rails and/or peripheral devices.

  • Patent number: 6049451
Abstract: An aperture in a mounting rail for receiving a retaining pin for securing or locking a carrier that is slid into a carrier bay on the mounting rail. The carrier holds a computer system hard disk drive. The retaining pin extends through the mounting rail aperture and engages a surface on the carrier when the carrier is in a secured position to secure or lock the carrier in the carrier bay. In one example, the mounting rail aperture is located on top of the mounting rail and is formed by an aperture frame that is supported by stiffening ribs. The retaining pin is moved to a secured or locking position by a key actuated cam. The key actuated cam moves a locking bar attached to the retaining pin.

  • Patent number: 6040982
Abstract: An electronic system includes a chassis with attachment features which may interchangeably accept and secure a connector assembly and paralleling board assembly. The connector assembly may be used in a lower cost nonredundant power supply configuration while the paralleling board assembly may be used in multiple power supply configurations. The power supply may be interchangeably connected to the connector assembly and the paralleling board assembly.

  • Patent number: 6021047
Abstract: A computer and a rack mount system and method for mounting a computer in which the computer is mounted on a shelf that is slidable to a position outside the cabinet of the rack mount system. The computer is then slid in a direction transverse to the first direction after which it is pivoted relative to the shelf to permit it to be serviced.

  • Patent number: 5691879
Abstract: The present invention provides a simple, compact and cost effective locking device that simultaneously secures a multiple of hard disk drive carriers or cartridges in a disk drive housing. The disk drive housing includes at least two disk drive carrier bays in a disk drive carrier opening for housing associated disk drive carriers. The locking device of the present invention secures the disk drive carriers into the disk drive carrier bays and therefore into the disk drive housing. The locking device includes a moveable locking bar assembly located inside the disk drive housing and spanning the disk drive carrier bays and comprises a locking bar and at least two locking pins projecting from the locking bar, one locking pin for each of the disk drive carriers, wherein the locking bar is moveable to either a locked or an unlocked position.

  • Patent number: 5612854
Abstract: A computer is provided with a redundant power supply system using a plurality of power supply boxes having generally conventional, off-the-shelf configurations. The computer includes a housing having a wall opening spaced apart from and facing the side of a paralleling type circuit board having mounted thereon a plurality of AC electrical connectors and a spaced plurality of DC electrical connectors. The power supply boxes are mounted on carrier structures slidably received in the computer housing for drawer-like movement through the housing wall opening toward and away from the circuit boards. Each power supply box has an external wire bundle with blind mate DC electrical connectors mounted on the outer ends of its leads and supported by the carrier structure for mating connection with their associated circuit board connectors when the carrier structure is moved into adjacency with its associated circuit board.
