Abstract: Method and system are disclosed for canceling ambient noise in a communication terminal. A buzzer serves a dual role both as a ringer for incoming calls or other such event notifications and also as a transducer for transducing the ambient noise into electro-acoustic signals. The electro-acoustic signals from the buzzer undergo phase inversion and are then combined with the non-inverted signals from a microphone. The inverted and non-inverted phases of the ambient noise electro-acoustic signals substantially cancel each other when combined, leaving essentially only the desired speech signals.
