  • Patent number: 5854432
Abstract: The invention pertains to the art of direct push soil sampling that uses the art of dual tube to retrieve subsurface soil samples. It is a means of applying the dual tube art that allows deeper sampling depths to be achieved by configuring the tooling string in such a manner that the inner tooling is non-rigidly attached to the outer tooling string both rotationally and axially. The non-rigidity of integration of the two tooling strings allows deeper penetration of the sampling apparatus by reducing the friction between soil entering the sample chamber of the inner tooling string and the sample chamber. In addition deeper depths of penetration are possible because the inner and outer tooling strings are driven both concurrently and independently of each other.

  • Patent number: 5432709
Abstract: A portable ground water sampling apparatus has a submersible pump or other water sampling apparatus attached through a hose to a hydraulically driven spool mounted on a boom attached to the bed of a truck or trailer. The hydraulically operated boom enables the operator to place the pump over the well and lower the pump into the well from the spool. A second spool also mounted on the boom operates a cable attached to a discrete liquid sampler or appliance of operator's choice for lowering into the well to take water samples or collect data. A decontamination apparatus is also attached to the boom and washes the hose and cable to remove contaminants therefrom. The contaminated wash fluid is removed to a holding tank for later disposal at a safe site. Hydraulically driven level-wind mechanisms are attached to each spool. One or more computers are used on site to track the pumping and purging, as well as monitor sensors measuring fluid characteristics, such as, temperature of the water, conductivity and flow.

  • Patent number: 5150622
Abstract: A device for sampling gas vapor underground has a probe tip designed to be driven into the ground. The probe tip has a removable sheath that covers a tube having an enlarged conical tip with the tube having multiplicity of apertures in the tube to gather soil gas vapors through the apertures and conduct them through a flexible plastic tube attached to the probe up to the surface of the ground to be monitored. The probe has a flexible disc attached thereto above the apertures to protect the apertures from being filled with earth from above. The apertures also have a screen around them to prevent earth from entering the apertures to plug them. After the probe is in place in the earth, the removable sheath is pulled above ground, leaving the probe to gather gas samples for collection and evaluation at a collection point above ground.

  • Patent number: 4949582
Abstract: A device for sampling liquid and semi-liquid materials which comprises a container with a top and end cap, the container being filled through an opening in the top cat which is closed by a valve manually or electrically operated by the user. After filling, the container may be capped with permanent caps for transportation, or the container may be emptied into another container through the end cap which is fitted with a spring biased valve allowing discharge of the contents.

  • Patent number: 4653336
Abstract: A combination soil auger and soil core sampling apparatus has a cylindrical body with soil-cutting blades disposed at one end thereof and alternative cap and handle combinations attached at the opposite end for soil auger or soil core sampling use. In the soil auger mode, the body has an open cap with a bail and handle for augering into soil. In the core sampling mode, the body had a closed cap and handle combination and a removable sleeve insert within the body adapted to receive and hold a soil sample as the apparatus is rotated in the soil to be sampled. The sleeve insert is removeable for capping and retention of the soil sample.
