  • Patent number: 5586748
Abstract: A disconnect valve assembly is used to connect a source of fluid with a container to be filled. The valve assembly includes a tubular body having a fluid passageway extending therethrough from an inlet to an outlet. A depressor is located in the passageway intermediate the inlet and the outlet. A ball-valve check assembly is located in the passageway between the inlet and the depressor. This assembly includes a stem body slidably mounted within the passageway. The stem body has a stem passageway extending therethrough including a first passageway portion and a second passageway portion located downstream from the first passageway portion and being of smaller diameter than the first passageway portion. A valve seat interconnects the two portions. A resilient ball member is located in the first passageway portion and a spring serves to normally bias the ball member against the valve seat to prevent passage of fluid therethrough. A depressor is carried by the stem body in a telescoping arrangement therewith.

  • Patent number: 5492305
Abstract: A connector assembly is disclosed for connecting a source of fluid, such as a refrigerant, with a container, such as in an air conditioning system. The assembly includes an elongated tubular body having a fluid passageway extending axially therethrough from an inlet to an outlet. A depressor is located in the passageway intermediate the inlet and outlet and is mounted for slidable movement between a normally valve closed first position and a valve open second position. A ball valve check assembly is located within the passageway in the tubular body between the inlet and the depressor. This assembly includes a spool having a spool passageway extending axially therethrough. The spool passageway has a first portion and a second portion with the second portion being located downstream from the first portion and being of a smaller diameter. A radially extending shoulder interconnects the first and second portions.

  • Patent number: 5358012
Abstract: A hose assembly is provided having an elongated tubular member having a nipple portion, a hose having an internal diameter corresponding essentially with the outer diameter of said nipple portion and a metallic shell which coaxially surrounds said nipple portion with the hose located therebetween. The shell has a radially inward flange at one end thereof which extends radially into an annular groove located in the tubular portion to prevent axial movement of the shell relative to the nipple portion. The nipple portion has a reduced diameter annular channel having a plurality of axially spaced circumferential barbs which extend radially outward from the channel with the outer diameter of the barbs being less than the outer diameter of the nipple portion.

  • Patent number: 4496378
Abstract: An accumulator dehydrator is disclosed having a deflector for directing the flow of refrigerant into the dehydrator, said deflector formed of sheet metal, and permanently secured in operative position by component parts of the accumulator dehydrator. The deflector is provided with a planar body portion which is disposed at an angle to the flow of the incoming refrigerant, and is provided with flanges which inhibit lateral flow of the refrigerant. The deflector is also provided with a portion of arcuate configuration, which is clamped to the accumulator dehydrator in a manner which prevents movement in any direction relatively to the accumulator dehydrator.

  • Patent number: 4412380
Abstract: A hose cutoff device or tool is disclosed which is especially adapted for cutting lengths of hose for use in hose assemblies for automotive air-conditioning systems. The device or tool comprises a base which is provided with axially-spaced, axially aligned, tubes for the reception of the hose to be cut, and with a manually-operable handle which is pivotally secured to the base, and is provided with a cutter blade which is movable through the hose to sever the hose into desired lengths. The cutter blade is of unique design or construction, is removably secured to the handle, and can be quickly and easily replaced when worn. A guard is provided for limiting movement of the handle away from the base and for partially enclosing the cutter blade.

  • Patent number: 4408381
Abstract: A device or tool is disclosed for assembling the hose and fitting of hose assemblies used in automotive air conditioning systems. The device comprises means for supporting the hose and fitting in spaced axial alignment with each other, and means including a handle and linkage responsive to movement of the handle for causing toothed rolls to engage diametrically opposite sides of the hose and force the hose over the end portion of the fitting. The toothed rolls are mounted eccentrically of studs on the handle and linkage, so as to vary the spacing between the rolls to accommodate therebetween hoses of different diameter.

  • Patent number: 4269295
Abstract: Torque transmitting fluid couplings of two types are described, one a thermatically controlled coupling and the other a torque limiting coupling. Both are characterized by the use of parts which can be manufactured at low cost and easily and quickly assembled, and contribute to greater efficiency in operation than fluid couplings of these types which have heretofore been marketed. Both utilize a housing or casing which is die-cast complete and finish bored, a drive shaft and coupling flange made of two separate pieces, which are welded together, ball bearing mounts, a cover or cover member made as a metal stamping, and a drive disc which is die-cast, in a single piece, to provide a friction ring and friction segments molded integrally therewith.

  • Patent number: 4142843
Abstract: A compressor block and tube assembly is disclosed having spaced openings for the reception of the ends of tubes for admitting fluid to and from a compressor. Means are provided for interlocking the tubes to the block, whereby relative axial movement of the tubes in said openings is avoided. The tubes are provided with conical shoulders and beads for this purpose, and O-rings are interposed between the beads and the block to provide leak-proof seals between the tubes and block. The block is of such design as to facilitate production in mass quantities.

  • Patent number: 4114656
Abstract: The invention is concerned with the provision of a hose assembly in which the hose is clamped between a tube or nipple and a shell, and the shell is provided with a body portion which is crimped to the hose. The shell is entirely independent of and unattached to the tube or nipple, thereby facilitating removal of the shell from the assembly in a situation where the hose has burst or become damaged, and a new hose must be used to replace it in the assembly. The shell is provided with an inturned flange which functions as a stop for the end of the hose, and the tube or nipple is provided with an annular bead, one side of which functions as a stop to predetermine the position of the tube or nipple relatively to the end of the hose.

  • Patent number: 4004608
Abstract: A suction throttling valve is provided which is especially adapted for use as a part of a compact unit consisting of a thermostatic expansion valve, suction throttling valve, and a receiver-dryer, in an automotive air conditioning system. The suction throttling valve is characterized by the incorporation therein of a bellows assembly of unique construction, which includes a bellows, an evacuating tube for evacuating the bellows to a predetermined pressure, and a needle valve. The bellows assembly can be easily and quickly adjusted relatively to the valve housing, in a manner such as to obviate the use of extremely expensive and sophisticated testing equipment. Construction has also been simplified to eliminate certain parts previously used in other valves of this character.
