  • Patent number: 8705022
Abstract: A machine control system uses a laser system and global navigation satellite system to determine the position of the machine. The laser system has a laser detector positioned in a known and fixed relationship with the nominal phase center of a global navigation satellite antenna. The laser detector receives laser light transmitted from a laser transmitter. The outputs of the laser system and the global navigation satellite system are used together to determine the position of the transmitter prior to being used to determine the position of the machine.

  • Publication number: 20130004363
Abstract: A new nickel-free sterling silver alloy with superior tarnish resistant, yet substantially similar cold working and mechanical properties is disclosed using a specified mixture of zinc, copper, silicon, iridium, and indium with pure silver. A new and improved method of manufacture involving a four-step process whereby the non-silver components are fabricated in an inert gas or reducing atmosphere into a master alloy of pre-determined composition, and in a final step mixed with a predetermined mass of pure silver to produce the new alloy.

  • Publication number: 20100129152
Abstract: A method of covering an area with a compressible material, such as asphalt, to a desired elevation using a machine that deposits a layer of the compressible material of controlled thickness on a foundation surface, and then using a compacting machine to compact the compressible material to the desired elevation, includes the steps of determining the elevation of the foundation surface over the area, and determining the difference between the elevation of the foundation surface and the desired elevation over the area. A layer of the compressible material is deposited over the area. The layer has an upper surface that varies in elevation over the area, with the layer upper surface being higher in the areas having a lower foundation elevation and lower in the areas having a higher foundation elevation. The layer is sufficiently thick to allow for compression of the layer of compressible material over the area to the desired elevation.

  • Publication number: 20050197756
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to a method and system for performing non-contact based determination of the position of an implement. In one embodiment, a non-contact based measurement system is used to determine the relative position of an implement coupled with a mobile machine. The geographic position of the mobile machine is determined and the geographic position of said implement based upon the geographic position of the mobile machine and the position of the implement relative to the mobile machine.

  • Patent number: 5986604
Abstract: A system for selecting an optimal transformation T(G2;G1) between a first ellipsoid E1 (e.g., WGS 84) in a first global coordinate system G1, relative to which the survey measurements are made, and a second ellipsoid E2 (e.g., NAD 27) in a second global coordinate system G2. Location coordinates (x'.sub.m,2,y'.sub.m,2,z'.sub.m,2) for M previously-surveyed locations, numbered m=1, . . . , M (M>1) in the second system, and location coordinates (x'.sub.n,1,y'.sub.n,1,z'.sub.n,1) for N presently-surveyed locations, numbered n=1, . . . , N (M<N), in the first system are provided, where M presently-surveyed locations coincide with the M previously-surveyed locations. The transformation is chose.sub.n so that the images of previously-surveyed locations in the first system under the transformation T are as close as possible to the corresponding [previously-surveyed] locations in the second system. Give.sub.n an ellipsoid and a selected survey plane .tau.

  • Patent number: 5007922
Abstract: A needle-suture combination with reduced diameter portion of the suture being attached to the blunt end of the needle. The maximum diameter of the suture being almost the same but no larger than the diameter of the blunt end of the needle and the reduced diameter portion of the suture having a tensile strength greater than the remainder of the suture. The suture is prepared by winding a monofilament in a helical configuration, heating and drawing a portion of the monofilament to reduce the diameter in the heated drawn portion, and cutting the monofilament to produce a suture that has a reduced diameter at its end.
