  • Patent number: 10173194
Abstract: We provide systems for ionic liquid catalyzed hydrocarbon conversion that comprise a modular reactor comprising a plurality of mixer modules. The mixer modules may be arranged in series. One or more feed modules are disposed between the mixer modules. Such systems may be used for ionic liquid catalyzed alkylation reactions. Processes for ionic liquid catalyzed hydrocarbon conversion are also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7009028
Abstract: In a two-step precondensate process for preparing polyamides diamines are reacted with dicarboxylic acid dihalides in a polar, non-basic, inert organic liquid medium under conditions such that a condensation product having a low degree of polymerization is formed. The resulting condensation then is contacted with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble acid acceptor by continuously feeding the components into a reactor system having a total residence time from about 2 seconds to about 2 minutes, and having a Peclet number greater than about 3.5 to form a polyamide product having a high degree of polymerization.

  • Patent number: 6698917
Abstract: A process is provided for blending two fluids having widely differing viscosities, such that the ratio of the two viscosities is at least 10,000:1. The low viscosity fluid is injected into the high viscosity fluid as it flows through a conduit, such that the low viscosity fluid is at least 30% by weight of the total weight of the low viscosity fluid and the high viscosity fluid. The two fluids are then forwarded to a second conduit containing a first set of static mixing elements providing a fluid shear rate in excess of 0.57 sec−1. The two fluids are then further forwarded to a third conduit containing a second set of static mixing elements of a larger diameter than the first set, providing a fluid shear rate in excess of 0.20 sec−1. Within the third conduit the two fluids form a homogeneous blend.

  • Patent number: 5816700
Abstract: A mixing apparatus for continuously generating a homogeneous mixture of a polymer and a less viscous fluid is provided. The mixer includes means for continuously injecting a viscous polymer into a pressure vessel; means for continuously injecting a lower viscosity fluid into the pressure vessel; means for continuously injecting a plasticizing agent into the viscous polymer entering the pressure vessel; high shear centrifugal mixing means within the pressure vessel for mixing the polymer and the less viscous fluid; drive means for rotating the rotational mixing means; heating means for maintaining the temperature of the substances being mixed in the pressure vessel at a desired mixing temperature; and means for continuously discharging a homogeneous mixture of the polymer, the plasticizing agent, and the less viscous fluid from the mixer.
