  • Publication number: 20230227653
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a flame retardant thermal interface material. The material contains a bio-based material and associated functional additives, wherein the bio-based material includes a protein and the functional additives include at least one of a char forming promotor, a char reinforce agent, a foaming agent, a thermal conductive agent, a flame suppression agent and other additives. The char forming promotor, the char reinforce agent and the flame suppression agent are used to adjust the combustion behavior of the material to render the material having desired flame retardation performance. The foaming agent and thermal conductive agent are used to adjust thermal conductivity of the material. The present invention is also directed to a process method of making a flame retardation thermal interface material.

  • Publication number: 20070122333
Abstract: Amorphous, nanoporous silica gel having an open channel structure may be surface modified at higher loading of surface modifying ligands, e.g., 7.5 mmole per gram, than known nanoporous silica gels. In one embodiment, an amorphous silica gel has a bimodal pore size distribution of pores at about 10 nanometers and at about 10 microns, and a bulk density of about 0.2 to about 0.25 g/ml. Surface modification with functionalized ligand groups, effective for selective adsorption or reaction catalysis, is achieved by gelling silica sol solution to form a wet silica gel, maintaining the gel at a relatively low elevated temperature in a moist state to obtain a wet nanoporous silica gel having a plurality of open channels within the gel structure and silanol groups on the surface and reacting the surface silanol groups with the ligand group to introduce the functionalized group. The surface modifying reaction may be carried out concurrently with the gelling of a silica precursor in an aqueous alcoholic medium.

  • Publication number: 20060207942
Abstract: A nanoporous reactive adsorbent incorporates a relatively small number of relatively larger reactant, e.g., metal, enzyme, etc., particles (10) forming a discontinuous or continuous phase interspersed among and surrounded by a continuous phase of smaller adsorbent particles (12) and connected interstitial pores (14) therebetween. The reactive adsorbent can effectively remove inorganic or organic impurities in a liquid by causing the liquid to flow through the adsorbent. For example, silver ions may be adsorbed by the adsorbent particles (12) and reduced to metallic silver by reducing metal, such as irons, as the reactant particles (10). The column can be regenerated by backwashing with the liquid effluent containing, for example, acetic acid.

  • Publication number: 20060074172
Abstract: A process for preparing durable anti-reflection coatings includes forming a self assembling gradient layer between a first phase of a low refractive index and a second phase of a high refractive index, the gradient layer having a refractive index between that of the first and second phases at the interface of the first and second phases, as well as coatings and articles formed from this process.

  • Publication number: 20050228106
Abstract: The synthesis of precipitated silica having improved chemical and physical properties of use as a reinforcing filler in polymeric matrices is described. Improvements in the properties result from the synthesis of the silica al a reduced ionic strength. In particular, the use of silicia acid during synthesis, provides a solution of reduced ionic strength, which favors the formation of improved colloidal structure via increased aggregation and reduced agglomeration. In addition, the surface of the silica precipitate formed may be modified by the addition of surface modifying agents, during synthesis to further enhance the desired reinforcing properties of the precipitated silica. The invention also embodies polymeric compositions of improved tensile and elongation strengths, with the compositions including precipitated silica, synthesized at reduced ionic strengths and having modified surfaces, in combination with a polymeric compound.
