    Abstract: For transferring packets between a wireless data transfer device and a mobile communication network, temporary block flows are formed, and information is transferred in these block flows in one or more packet data traffic channels either in the first direction from the mobile communication network to the wireless data transfer device or in the second direction from the wireless data transfer device to the mobile communication network. In the method, information about the end of the block flow is set in a packet to be transmitted in a block flow when data transfer has stopped. When the transfer of packets in the first direction has stopped, at least one enquiry message is also sent from the mobile communication network to the wireless data transfer device.

In order to allow a MS to receive a PTM-M in an IDLE state, a unique protocol identifier is permanently assigned to PTM-M transmissions whilst other identifiers are dynamically assigned to other PDPs by the network.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed for operating a wireless telecommunication system for providing a Multimedia Broadcast/Multicast Service MBMS broadcast transmission from a network operator (10) to a mobile station (100). A first step determines a minimum bit rate requirement to broadcast a MBMS message and a number of radio blocks per time period that are required to satisfy the bit rate requirement. A second step allocates the determined number of radio blocks in accordance with a multislot transmission technique, wherein a plurality of time slots are used per frame, such that the mobile station is provided with at least one idle radio block between two active MBMS transmission periods. The at least one idle radio block may occur between two active MBMS radio blocks. A third step transmits the determined radio block allocation to the mobile station. In the preferred embodiment the step of determining may include a consideration of radio channel conditions and a multislot class of the mobile station.

In order to enable an efficient acknowledgement of downlink messages it is proposed that in a first step, at least two downlink messages are received at the mobile station from the communication network, of which at least two downlink messages reception has to be acknowledged. In a second step, the reception of the at least two downlink messages is then acknowledged in a single uplink message transmitted by the mobile station to the communication network. The invention equally relates to a corresponding mobile station, to a corresponding communication network and to a communication system comprising such a mobile station and such a communication network.

An PDCH de-allocation RLC/MAC control message is broadcast to listening mobile stations from a base station subsystem (BSS) and contains a temporary flow identity (TFI) which is recognised by the listening mobile stations (MS). The mobile stations respond by terminating packet switched data transmissions on the identified PDCHs. The RLC/MAC message also identifies the number of PDCH time slots which can be used before de-allocation must occur.
