  • Patent number: 5171135
Abstract: A flexible valve retainer for a piston and suction valve assembly of a reciprocating piston hermetic compressor assembly. In the compressor assembly, the suction valve opens as a result of the fluid pressure generated by the reciprocating movement of the piston in the cylinder. As it opens, the suction valve is axially displaced from a closed position on the top surface of the piston to an open position a fixed distance therefrom, whereupon further axial movement is prevented as the suction valve strikes the valve retainer. The radially outer portion of the valve retainer deflects as a result of the impact with the suction valve. This deflection of the valve retainer lessens the detrimental effects caused by repeated impact between the suction valve and retainer. The valve retainer is formed from a flexible material such as spring steel or Swedish steel. The valve retainer comprises at least one washer coaxial with the suction valve, and spaced said fixed distance therefrom.

  • Patent number: 5022146
Abstract: A hermetically sealed twin rotary compressor is disclosed wherein a pair of rotary vane compressors are synchronously, coaxially coupled to respective axial ends of a drive motor by means of a quill disposed in a rotation rotor thereof. The rotary compressor crankshafts are coupled to the quill with their eccentric portion oriented opposite one another with respect to the axis of rotation. Counterbalancing weights are mounted to the motor end rings oppositely the adjacent eccentric portion with respect to the axis of rotation. A suction accumulator is provided having a pair of tubes extending from fluid outlets on the accumulator to respective fluid inlets associated with the pair of compressors. The tubes pass through a pair of spaced apertures in the housing and effectively mount the suction accumulator to the housing. A method of assembling the compressor assembly, including accumulator, is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4881879
Abstract: A hermetically sealed rotary compressor is disclosed wherein gas compressed within a compression chamber defined by a cylinder block is discharged through respective discharge ports in the main and outboard bearings defining the ends of the cylinder. Mufflers are provided on the outside ends of the bearings into which the compressed gas is expanded. A constricting gas passageway extending through the bearings and the cylinder block provides a path for constricted flow of gas from one muffler to the other. The constricted gas expands upon entry into the other muffler, thereby providing a cooler recombined discharge gas for use in cooling oil in the oil sump and cooling the motor stator windings.

  • Patent number: 4748531
Abstract: A terminal block and overload protector for a compressor assembly for connection to the terminal pin assembly of a compressor located on the inside wall of a compressor casing. The assembly includes a housing with three apertures therein into which three of the terminal pins are disposed. Electrical connector clips are disposed in the housing for connection to the terminal pins. The housing also includes a space in which a motor protector is secured. The motor protector has two terminal pins which are secured to slip-on quick-connect terminals. The motor protector housing has a third connector clip secured thereto. Each of the three connector clips has a knurled inside surface for gripping and retaining of the respective terminal pins.
