  • Patent number: 5749204
Abstract: A process for the final containerization of bulk cheese discharged from a vertical cheese forming tower operates with variant methods to accommodate direct filling of the final container or preliminary filling for transfer to the final container. In accordance with both methods, initial filling utilizes a false bottom container which allows the cheese section to be lowered into the container for sealing and either final closure or inversion and transfer to another final container such as a fixed bottom steel barrel. Both methods utilize a step of placing a closure over the open top of the initially filled container, and an inverting step to expose the opposite end of the container for a final closure. Common apparatus may be used in the system of the present invention to accommodate either embodiment of the containerization method.

  • Patent number: 4898261
Abstract: A plastic oil pan (16) for an internal combustion engine (14) has an upper lip (18) for mating with the engine in sealing relation, sidewalls (21-24) depending downwardly below the lip, a bottom (26) extending between the sidewalls below the lip to provide a closed-bottom receptacle for holding engine oil, and a plurality of reinforcing walls (28, 30, 36, 38, 40) integrally formed along the sidewalls and increasing the mechanical strength of same to enable the plastic oil pan to support the engine when the latter rests on the oil pan during installation or repair procedures. A conduit (54) extends through the oil pan and passes engine coolant therethrough to cool the engine oil. Particular oil pan and conduit structure is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4781021
Abstract: A marine engine exhaust muffler assembly (8) includes inlet and outlet members (10, 11), the axes (13, 14) of which are offset from each other. A muffler housing (12) is disposed between the inlet and outlet members and forms a chamber (15) having disposed therein an annular multi-layered cartridge (23), and with the layers having a multiplicity of perforations (27) therein for passage of exhaust gases and spent engine cooling water therethrough. The water assists in keeping the muffler clean. An imperforate arcuate blocking plate (31) is nested within the lower portion of the cartridge to permit accumulation of the spent engine cooling water within the cartridge to aid in noise reduction at certain engine speeds. The blocking plate is provided with a relief opening means (33) for assisting in water drainage upon engine shutoff.

  • Patent number: 4773215
Abstract: A stern drive marine propulsion system (2) has an inboard engine (4) with an exhaust (6), an outboard drive unit (8) operatively coupled to the engine (4) and separated therefrom by a transom (10) having two exhaust passages (28 and 34) therethrough, and an exhaust control assembly (16) aft of the engine exhaust (6) and forward of the transom (10) and within the boat (12). The assembly (16) has an inlet (18) connected to the engine exhaust (6), and has first and second outlets (22 and 24) communicating with the respective exhaust passages (28 and 34) extending aft through the transom (10). A valve (26) in the assembly (16) selectively controls communication of the inlet (18) with the first outlet (22).
