  • Patent number: 5943782
Abstract: A chain saw guide bar includes outer side surfaces, a longitudinal groove having side walls, and two edge surfaces. Each edge surface interconnects a side wall and an outer side surface to form therewith inner and outer corners, respectively. To edge-harden the guide bar, the edge surfaces, inner corners, and outer corners are heated above 750.degree. C. Then, the edge surfaces and inner corners are rapidly cooled, i.e, quenched, but the outer side surfaces are cooled more slowly, whereby the inner corners are given a higher hardness than the outer corners.

  • Patent number: 5845402
Abstract: A guide bar for a chain saw includes a pair of side plates and a center plate disposed therebetween. Each of the side plates includes spray holes through which a liquid can be sprayed. Liquid-conducting tubes are mounted in a longitudinal center slot of the center plate, and outlet ends of the tubes are connected to the spray holes of one of the side plates. Inlet ends of the tubes are connected to fittings mounted in a rear end of the guide bar to enable the tubes to receive liquid from a liquid source. A worn guide bar can be reversed, while still permitting the spraying to be performed. That is, while the guide bar is being reversed, the tubes are removed to enable the fittings to be reversed. Then, the inlet ends of the tubes are reconnected to the fittings, and the outlet ends of the tubes are connected to the spray holes formed in the other side plate.

  • Patent number: 5797187
Abstract: A chain saw guide bar is formed of a middle plate and a pair of side plates affixed on opposite sides of the middle plate. One (or both) of the side plates carries nozzles for emitting liquid dyes of different respective colors. Channels for conducting liquid dyes to the respective nozzles are formed by grooves cut in the interface between the middle plate and a side plate. Each channel is surrounded by a laser weld which completely isolates the channels from one another to avoid mixing the colors. The laser welds also secure the middle and side plates together. Additional laser welds secure the middle and side plates together, the additional laser welds being discontinuous.

  • Patent number: 5778537
Abstract: Chain saw guide bar and method of using a guide bar for spraying liquid on a sawn surface through a plurality of orifices formed in a guide bar side plate. The liquid is introduced into an inlet portion of a passage formed in a center plate of the guide bar and is conducted forwardly to the orifices. The liquid is sprayed from the orifices at equal pressures, and in spray directions having a component oriented parallel to a centerline of the guide bar. Thus, by adjusting the velocity of the sprayed liquid, the length dimension of the area sprayed can be adjusted.

  • Patent number: 5052314
Abstract: A planting tool for plants comprises a tube having a fixed beak half at its lower end. A hinged beak is hinged to the tube such that the fixed and hinged beak halves together form a beak capable of being pressed into the ground. The beak is then opened to make a hole in the ground for the plant, and is latched in the open position by the drawbar of a latching mechanism. The drawbar is attached to the hinged beak half and arranged to slide along an outside surface of the tube as the beak is opened and closed. The drawbar slides within a protective rail that is affixed to the outside of the tube to avoid being damaged or obstructed. The upper end of the drawbar extends above a reference edge of the rail when the beak is closed, and extends below that edge when the beak is open, thereby providing a visual indication of the condition of the beak. A handle for lifting and aiming the tube is adjustably attached to the rail to be adjustable to the height of the operator.

  • Patent number: 4979305
Abstract: A sawing apparatus includes a guide and a pair of oppositely reciprocable saw blades mounted in a groove of the guide. Mounting portions of the saw blades disposed within the groove slidingly engage one another within an interface plane. Each saw blade includes a cutting portion disposed outside of the groove and carrying outwardly set teeth and inwardly set teeth. The inwardly set teeth extend toward and beyond the interface plane. Feed forces can be applied from the guide to the saw blades by inclined end edges of plates which form the guide. The end edges are inclined obliquely so as to face away from the interface plane and engage correspondingly inclined surfaces of the saw blades. Alternatively, feed forces can be applied to back shoulders of the mounting portions of the saw blades by a member which extends between the guide plates within the groove.
