  • Patent number: 10264496
Abstract: A method of performing cell selection for a set of mobile terminals among at least two neighboring cells including a first and a second radio access node, respectively, includes acquiring a value of at least one property reflecting a network condition for each one of the mobile terminals, determining with which one of the first and second radio access nodes each of the mobile terminals initially should be associated based on the value of the acquired property for each mobile terminal, and generating a plurality of variations to the determined initial association based on a corresponding selected parameter. The method includes performing cell selection for at least a subset of the generated plurality of variations to the initial association, and determining a value of a metric for each of the performed cell selections and associating each metric value with said acquired property.

  • Patent number: 10154417
Abstract: A method in a network node for computing a Cell Range Expansion (CRE) value. The network node obtains a first value of a measure of the performance of the wireless communications network. The network node creates a first relationship relating the first value of the parameter to the first CRE value and the first measure of the performance of the wireless communications network, based on the first value of the parameter and the first value of the measure of the performance. The network node creates a second relationship relating the second value of the parameter to a second CRE value and a second value of the measure of the performance of the wireless communications network, based on the first relationship and on the second value of the parameter. The network node computes the second CRE value based on a second value of the parameter, and the second relationship.

  • Publication number: 20130070612
Abstract: The present solution relates to enabling improved performance for a user equipment UE (205) in a communication network (200). A network node (210) detects (301, 401) that wireless performance between the UE (205) and a base station (201) is poor. Then, it identifies (302,402) a location of the UE (205) where the poor performance is detected, obtains (303,403) an identity associated with the UE (205), obtains (304,404) an address associated with the UE (205) and identifies (305,405) that the location of the UE (205) is residential and that the address corresponds to the location. The node (210) searches (306,406) for a wireline connection (219) located within a distance from the UE (205). The node (210) establishes (307,407) whether the performance for the UE (205) would be improved by providing services from a core network (209) to the UE (205) via the wireline connection (219) using the home base station (215).

  • Publication number: 20110222414
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system in an IP-based mobile communication network for actively probing a tunneled transmission path from a base station such as an eNB to a core network. A UE-emulator emulates a User Equipment (UE) and provides emulated NAS signaling to a Probe Connection Control (PCC) unit in the base station, which establishes the tunneled transmission path by forwarding the NAS signaling received from the emulator toward the core network. The PCC stores associated communication endpoints and UE-assigned IP addresses. A Probe Traffic Control (PTC) unit within the base station utilizes the stored endpoints and IP addresses to generate probe traffic through the tunneled transmission path toward a probe server or another base station configured as a probe reflector. The probe reflector collects and reports path properties such as packet loss, delay, jitter, and throughput.
