  • Publication number: 20140365637
Abstract: Computational methods and systems for identifying a subset of a set of metrics that can be used to monitor a resource are described. The subset is representative of the information provided by the full set of metrics. Correlations are calculated for each pair of metrics and metrics with the highest correlations to other metrics in the set of metrics are deleted to obtain the representative subset of metrics. Deletion of metrics from the set of metrics may be optimized for accuracy or cost. The smaller representative subset of metrics can then be used to monitor the resource.

  • Publication number: 20110307947
Abstract: Systems, methods and apparatus for accessing at least one resource hosted by at least one server of a cloud service provider. In some embodiments, a client computer sends authentication information associated with a user of the client computer and a statement of health regarding the client computer to an access control gateway deployed in an enterprise's managed network. The access control gateway authenticates the user and determines whether the user is authorized to access the at least one resource hosted in the cloud. If the user authentication and authorization succeeds, the access control gateway requests a security token from a security token service trusted by an access control component in the cloud and forwards the security token to the client computer. The client computer sends the security token to the access component in the cloud to access the at least one resource from the at least one server.

  • Patent number: 7778959
Abstract: A file server and a data protection manager server can work in tandem to efficiently backup protected volumes, and also provide efficient access to replicas of the protected volumes. In one implementation, a file server institutes a mock replication process, in which the file server observes data associated with write operations in one or more protected volumes. Appropriate volume allocation information can then be determined, which can be used to allocate log file, spill log file, replica volume, and shadow copy volume sizes, both at the file server and at the data protection manager server. In one implementation, the file server or data protection manager server automatically determines volume allocation information and automatically provides this information to the data protection manager server. The data protection manager server can then compare the volume allocation information with identified characteristics of its storage mediums, and implements an appropriate, efficient backup policy.

  • Patent number: 7698593
Abstract: A data protection management system for protecting content controlled by a clustered server is presented. The data protection management system includes a data protection server and a data storage pool. The data storage pool is coupled to and controlled by the data protection server for storing a replicated copy of the protected content. The data protection management system also includes a file system filter deployed on each cluster node in the clustered server. Each file system filter is configured to, upon receiving notice of a modification to the protected content, generate a change record comprising information describing the modification such that the data protection server can effectuate the same modification on the replicated content in the data storage pool corresponding to the protected content. The data protection server communicates with the clustered server as a single server in providing data protection to the protected content.
