  • Patent number: 5368831
Abstract: A process for making a ceramic inlay for filling a cavity in a tooth. A piece of metal foil is pressed into a depression in a jig, where the depression approximates the shape of the cavity; the pressed metal foil is annealed and the pressing and annealing steps are repeated until the foil has a concave depression roughly the same size and shape as the cavity. A ceramic layer is built up on the concave foil to form a ceramic inlay substantially reconstructing the tooth.

  • Patent number: 4481227
Abstract: A method is provided of coloring bakeable porcelain dental restorations. A plurality of pigmented coloring solutions is provided for application to a porcelain restoration. Each coloring solution comprises a pigment of low temperature porcelain-fusable powder and a substantially clear carrier liquid that supports a dispersion of said pigment and vaporizes when the restoration is baked. A film of the coloring solution is coated onto said restoration and then cured. The steps of coating the restoration and curing the film are repeated as necessary to match the color of the restoration to the color of a patient's teeth. The coated restoration is then baked to fuse the pigment to the porcelain and vaporize the cured carrier liquid.

  • Patent number: 4392829
Abstract: A baked metal-porcelain dental restoration is provided, including a method of making same. The restoration includes a substrate formed from a non-cast thin metal foil having a textured exterior surface onto which a dental porcelain jacket is directly bonded without any intermediate interface compositions. The exterior of the porcelain jacket may be configured as necessary to provide a desired occlusal surface. The dental restoration is made by providing a support post with a configuration that corresponds to the shape of a tooth base in a patient's mouth. The support post is coated with a thin spacing layer. A thin metal foil is swaged around the coated support post to substantially conform to the shape of the post. The exterior of the foil substrate is textured and porcelain powder is applied thereto without the use of any intermediate interface composition between the foil and powder. The metal substrate and applied powder are baked to bond the porcelain directly to the metal foil.

  • Patent number: 4299567
Abstract: An improved kiln or oven useable support structure is provided which includes a base having a surface with a plurality of vertically oriented support bores disposed thereacross. A plurality of straight and crank shaped support pins having predetermined cross-sections are removably insertable into the bores of said base. A curved support member has in one end an aperture having a configuration minimally larger than the cross-section of said support pins. When said aperture encircles a support pin and the axis of said aperture is substantially parallel with said pin the two move freely with respect to one another, but when the axis of said aperture is not substantially parallel with said pin, the two pinch-lock or bind to maintain their relative positions.
