  • Publication number: 20070094356
Abstract: Described is a method and system for context aware profiling for wireless networks. The system may include a mobile unit and an access point. The mobile unit may includes a plurality of predefined contexts; each context including corresponding network settings. The mobile unit selects one of the predefined contexts and formatting and transmitting a request signal to enable the one of the predefined contexts. The access point includes the plurality of predefined contexts and receives the request signal from the mobile unit. The access point determines if the mobile unit has permission to enable the one of the predefined contexts and sends one of a permission signal and a denial signal to the mobile unit. When a permission signal is sent, the access point and the mobile unit apply the network settings corresponding to the one of the predefined contexts.

  • Publication number: 20070091859
Abstract: Described is a method and system for association of mobile units (“MU”) with an access point (“AP”). Each AP transmits a beacon signal within a corresponding coverage area, each beacon signal including a subnet of Internet Protocol (“IP) addresses being served by the AP transmitting the beacon signal. The MU associates with a first one of the APs and obtaining an IP address from the subnet served by the first AP. When the MU leaves the coverage area of the first AP, the MU receives beacon signals from other ones of the APs and associates with a second AP based on the second AP serving the subnet served by the first AP.

  • Patent number: 7082118
Abstract: Maintaining session connectivity without termination when a mobile node is assigned a new layer-3 address upon moving from a old location to a new location. Routers between the mobile node and correspondent node are configured to perform network address translation (NAT) such that both the nodes can potentially use the old IP address in communicating with each other, and yet the packets are routed accurately using the new layer-3 address. As a result, the session may not be terminated at either of the nodes when the mobile node moves.

  • Patent number: 7024687
Abstract: A method for executing end to end authentication in a network environment is provided that includes initiating a communications tunnel with a layer two tunnel protocol (L2TP) network server (LNS) and communicating an activate context request that includes an authentication protocol in a protocol configuration option (PCO) field, the activate context request being received by a gateway general packet radio service (GPRS) support node (GGSN) that initiates a link control protocol (LCP) negotiation with the LNS, the GGSN being operable to communicate an activate context response that may be received by the mobile terminal. An authentication response may be calculated by using a secret value and a challenge value which is provided by the GGSN, the authentication response being used to establish a communication session associated with the mobile terminal.

  • Publication number: 20060045042
Abstract: The invention relates generally to a method for providing presence and instant messaging in a computer network. In particular, the invention is directed to a modified implementation of known wireless networking protocols to provide instant messaging and presence services to mobile units using. The instant messaging and presence services are provided within the framework of the native wireless networking protocol.

  • Publication number: 20050138144
Abstract: A method for providing network services includes receiving a configuration request. The configuration request identifies a mobile node. The method also includes determining a location of the mobile node and selecting a directory agent based at least on the location of the mobile node. Additionally, the method includes transmitting to the mobile node a configuration response that identifies the directory agent.

  • Patent number: 6704780
Abstract: Systems and methods for efficient storage of network management object identifiers are provided. Object identifiers such as SNMP MIB object identifiers are stored in a compressed form. In one embodiment, a single integer represents multiple elements of an object identifier where these elements are common to many identifiers. The redundancy inherent in a standard object identifier format is thereby greatly reduced. Large memory savings are provided in network management systems that employ many network management objects.

  • Patent number: 6694304
Abstract: Systems and methods for retrieving table entries within a network management system are provided. A method includes receiving a request for table entries which are identified by an object identifier having a plurality of elements. The request includes at least one table entry object identifier and an index identifying at least one element of the object identifier. The method further includes varying the index element in the table entry object identifier and sending a response to the management station. The response includes the table entries obtained by varying the index element.
