Abstract: Automated processing of medication refill requests is provided. A medication refill request is received, and the refill request is parsed to obtain the refill information contained in the refill request. The refill information is used to determine whether to authorize the refill request. Determining whether to authorize the refill request includes determining whether supplemental information used to authorize the refill request is available. If the supplemental information is not available, a notification is provided indicating the supplemental information is not available and a timeout period is set. Processing of the refill request continues when the supplemental becomes available before the timeout period expires. If the timeout period expires before the supplemental information becomes available, then the refill request is discarded.
