    Abstract: A back pack having a frame adapted for limited flexing responsive to relative hip and shoulder movement of a hiker. A generally inverted U-shaped main frame unit has side bars that rotate under torsional resistance in a fore and aft direction about a transverse support bar. A cross bar support assembly is coupled to the side bars by fittings that provide for relative rotational and pivotal movement between members of the cross bar assembly and the side bars, thereby permitting such frame flexing.
