  • Patent number: 8090703
Abstract: User queries are received, with each query requesting a service from a server. Overlapping experiments are performed on at least a portion of the queries, with each experiment modifying one or more parameters associated with the queries or parameters associated with processing of the queries, and with the experiments organized into layers. Two or more experiments in different layers are allowed to be performed on the same query, and for any given layer, at most one experiment is allowed to be performed on the same query.

  • Patent number: 7657578
Abstract: A system for volume replication in a distributed block virtualization environment includes a first and a second set of one or more physical block devices, a first and a second volume server, one or more volume clients, and a replication manager. The first volume server may be configured to aggregate storage in the first set of one or more physical block devices into one or more logical volumes, and to make the one or more logical volumes accessible to the one or more volume clients. The replication manager may be configured to operate in cooperation with the first and second volume servers and the one or more volume clients to maintain a replica of at least a subset of the one or more logical volumes at the second set of one or more physical block devices.

  • Publication number: 20090276333
Abstract: An improved system and method for submitting, distributing and/or managing digital products with respect to a product distribution site are disclosed. The submission of digital products to the product distribution site is able to be performed by numerous submitters in a uniform and computer-assisted manner. The submitted digital products can then be managed in a largely automated manner and made available for online purchase and distribution at the product distribution site. Once a digital product is submitted, the user can access the status of the digital product submission to obtain information of whether the digital product has been approved or rejected. In one embodiment, the digital products are computer program products (e.g., computer software programs).

  • Patent number: 7461230
Abstract: A method, system, computer system, and computer-readable medium that identify the number of times areas of storage are updated and use that information to synchronize primary and secondary storage areas. The invention enables quick resumption of operations upon a discovery that primary and secondary data have become unsynchronized. Regions of storage that are unsynchronized can be identified quickly without the need to read the change log. In addition, data are copied efficiently, with minimal or no duplication of effort or data. Faster and more reliable storage can be allocated for storing regions of data that are “hot spots,” thereby making better use of existing storage resources and budgets.

  • Patent number: 7334062
Abstract: A method and mechanism for modifying computing resources in response to application behavior. A computing system includes a replication component configured to replicate data storage from a first data volume to a second data volume. In addition, the replication component is configured to monitor application I/O characteristics and store related statistics. I/O characteristics may include size, concurrency, locality, and frequency. I/O characteristics which are stored, and guidelines for modifying system resources based on those characteristics, may be displayed for use by an administrator in tuning system resources. Periodically, or in response to detecting an event, the replication component may automatically access the statistics and modify the system resources used by the replication system to better accommodate the application's behavior.

  • Patent number: 7006205
Abstract: Plasma events are detected by analyzing the spectral emissions of a plasma process of a substrate. A plasma is monitored by a spectrometer which produces plasma emission data which includes an intensity value for each individual wavelength which is a large quantity of information. The plasma emission data is processed with an algorithm or combination of algorithms to reduce the quantity of the plasma emission data. A peak finding algorithm which identifies the wavelengths of light which are associated with a plasma process allowing the other wavelengths to be ignored. A data reduction algorithm provides a single value representative of the intensity of the emitted light from each peak. A noise reduction algorithm removes noise from the spectral signal by eliminating signals at wavelengths which do not exceed a threshold intensity and do not exceed a threshold wavelength span. The data may also be processed with principal component analysis to further reduce the optical emission data.
