  • Patent number: 8932497
Abstract: Fire retardant coating systems and solid body cast systems comprise a first part comprising at least one ingredient having NCO functionality; and a second part comprising at least one ingredient having an active hydrogen functionality that is co-reactive with the NCO, wherein the first part and the second part are formulated so that when the parts are mixed together they form a cured coating or a solid body. The coating system or solid body cast system comprises a first fire retardant ingredient that is a phosphorus-based compound, a second fire retardant ingredient that is an intumescent material, and a third fire retardant ingredient that is a brominated ingredient. Methods for preparing a fire retardant coating or solid body are also described.

  • Publication number: 20090292032
Abstract: Fire retardant foam systems comprise a first part comprising at least one ingredient having NCO functionality; and a second part comprising at least one ingredient having an active hydrogen functionality that is co-reactive with the NCO, wherein the first part and the second part are formulated so that when the parts are mixed together they form a cured foam. The foam system comprises a first fire retardant ingredient that is a phosphorus-based compound, a second fire retardant ingredient that is an intumescent material, and a third fire retardant ingredient that is a brominated ingredient additionally having an active hydrogen functionality that is co-reactive with the NCO of the first part. Methods preparing a fire retardant foam comprise providing a fire retardant foam system as described above and mixing the first part and the second part together so that they form a cured foam. The foam made by this process and methods of protecting structures using the present foam system are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20060160978
Abstract: The present invention relates to flame retardant systems that include a combination of at least two flame retardant ingredients that is more effective than either flame retardant ingredient alone in a two-part, isocyanate-based, curable system. In certain embodiments, a third, intumescent flame-retardant ingredient provides a flame retardant system that is more effective than 1) any of the flame retardant ingredients alone in a two-part, isocyanate-based, curable system and 2) the same flame retardant system without the added third ingredient.

  • Patent number: 7001948
Abstract: A polyurea coating layer is provided, which is the reaction product of an isocyanate composition and an amine composition. The isocyanate composition comprises isocyanate functional compounds selected from a first set of isocyanate compounds having an average isocyanate functionality of at least about 3 and having an equivalent weight of from about 180 to about 240. The first set of isocyanate compounds preferably are at least about 65% of the isocyanate compounds. The isocyanate composition has an average isocyanate functionality of at least about 2.5. The amine composition comprises amine functional compounds selected from a first set of secondary amine compounds having an equivalent weight of from about 200 to about 280 (preferably as about 50 to about 80% of the amine compounds), and a second set of secondary amine compounds having an equivalent weight of from about 30 to about 180 (preferably as about 20 to about 40% of the amine compounds).
