  • Patent number: 8767771
Abstract: This disclosure describes techniques and apparatuses for wakeup beacons for mesh networks, which often permits nodes of a mesh network to save power when operating in a power-save mode. These wakeup beacons can be sent at high transmission rates and/or be small in size, thereby reducing the time a node must be awake to transmit and receive communications.

  • Publication number: 20140160959
Abstract: Disclosed are systems, methods and devices for obtaining round trip time measurements for use in location based services. In particular implementations, a fine timing measurement request message wirelessly transmitted by a first transceiver device to a second transceiver device may permit additional processing features in computing or applying a signal round trip time measurement. Such a signal round trip time measurement may be used in positioning operations.

  • Patent number: 8750273
Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with wireless direct links are described. According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes a transceiver configured to communicate with each of an access point and a peer station. The transceiver is configured to communicate with the peer station via a direct link, the direct link having been established in accordance with a wireless communication standard that specifies a tear down frame to tear down the direct link. In response to receiving a notice from the access point indicating that the access point will be disassociating from the transceiver, determining whether the notice is addressed to a group. In response to the notice being addressed to a group, the direct link is disconnected between the transceiver and the peer station without sending, to the peer station, the tear down frame as specified in the wireless communication standard.

  • Patent number: 8687521
Abstract: A network interface of a first mesh point device, the network interface including a memory and a medium access controller. In response to the first mesh point device receiving a frame, the medium access controller determines whether a mesh path for routing the frame from the first mesh point device to a second mesh point device is stored in the memory. In response to a mesh path not being stored in the memory, and prior to performing a mesh path discovery protocol, the medium access controller (i) determines whether the second mesh point device is one hop from the first mesh point device, and if so selects a one hop path for routing the frame to the second mesh point device, otherwise (ii) uses the mesh path discovery protocol to determine a mesh path for routing the frame to the second mesh point device.

  • Patent number: 8553561
Abstract: Quality of service for mesh networks is described. In embodiment(s), communication data can be prioritized as priority data and/or non-priority data for communication from a source node to a destination node in a mesh network. A first communication route in the mesh network can be determined to communicate the priority data from the source node to the destination node based on a minimum number of intermediate nodes via which the priority data is communicated. Additionally, a second communication route in the mesh network can be determined to communicate the non-priority data from the source node to the destination node based on a highest bit rate to communicate the non-priority data. A time duration to communicate the priority via the first communication route is less than a time duration to communicate the non-priority data via the second communication route.

  • Patent number: 8149715
Abstract: Various embodiments provide improved mesh networks with properties that address various shortcomings of current mesh network implementations. At least some embodiments are directed to improving operations of mesh networks in connection with battery powered devices and address concerns associated with latency issues due to power save nodes as well as load balancing. Yet other embodiments address route cache timeouts, reduce route discovery overhead, perform proactive route maintenance based on a node's battery, and provide a straightforward battery-aware process based sleep protocol.

  • Publication number: 20120063337
Abstract: Systems, methods, and other embodiments associated with controlling a wireless access point are described. According to one embodiment, an access point controller is configured to control a wireless access point. In one embodiment, the access point controller includes a detection logic configured to determine whether a wireless station that is wirelessly communicating with the wireless access point is within a predetermined distance to the wireless access point. In one embodiment, the wireless access point is configured to transmit signals at a first transmission rate within a first transmission range. The access point controller also includes an adjusting logic configured to, in response to the wireless station being within the predetermined distance to the wireless access point, reduce the first transmission range of the wireless access point to a second transmission range by increasing the first transmission rate of the wireless access point to a second transmission rate.

  • Patent number: 8094637
Abstract: Apparatus having corresponding methods comprise: a mesh path module adapted to select a mesh path between a first mesh point in a mesh network and a second mesh point in the mesh network, wherein the mesh path module comprises a neighbor discovery module adapted to determine whether the second mesh point is one hop from the first mesh point, a one-hop mesh path module adapted to select a one-hop mesh path between the first mesh point and the second mesh point when the second mesh point is one hop from the first mesh point, and a multi-hop mesh path module adapted to discover a multi-hop mesh path between the first mesh point and the second mesh point only when it is determined that the second mesh point is not one hop from the first mesh point.
