    Abstract: A method of modifying the rheological properties of a fluid include adding to the fluid at least one polymer that is the reaction product of at least one water soluble, allyic monomer and at least one structure inducing agent. The polymer is adapted to increase the viscosity of the fluid and to impart non-Newtonian characteristic to the fluid. Non-Newtonian characteristics are, for example, evidenced by the fluid exhibiting an n value of less than 1 upon addition of the polymer as determined by the equation ?=K?n, wherein ? is shear stress, ? is and shear rate and K is a flow consistency index.
