Abstract: A robotic coordinate measurement machine (CMM) having a contact direction sensitive (CDS) probe is usable to detect internal dimensions for an object of interest. A robot arm may contact a surface with the CDS probe which may then detect a magnitude and direction of the resulting reaction force. The robotic CMM may monitor the magnitude and/or direction of the reaction force while the CDS probe is being slide across a surface to determine dimensions for the surface. Changes in the reaction force sensed by the CDS probe may be used to identify contact with other surfaces of contours in the surface the CDS probe is being slid across. A path of the CDS probe may be altered based on the contact with other surfaces or the contours.

Abstract: An automated method for communicating patient status updates. The method includes registering a user. The registered user is associated with a patient file on a patient database. The patient file is representative of the patient for which the user will be receiving automated patient status updates. Patient status updates are received on the patient database via direct data entry or over a network. The patient file corresponding to the admitted patient is identified and configured to receive patient status updates for storage thereon. The patient status updates received on the patient file are formatted to conform to communication preferences established on the patient file. The method continues with the transmission of the formatted patient status updates over a network to the user communication device. A user receiving the patient status updates on the user communication device may avoid waiting at the healthcare facility for updates while being informed of any status changes in real-time.

Abstract: A medical communications and management system (MCMS) that is operative to compile, store, retrieve and transmit digitized medical information from a variety of medical imaging modalities, as well as digital information such as scanned in images, digital photographs, audio files, and digitized information corresponding to monitored physiological conditions, such as heart rate and the like. The MCMS is further operative to include personal patient identification information, such as retinal scans and fingerprints, and is capable of being archived to thus enable such digitized information to be readily accessed. To that end, it is contemplated that the MCMS of the present invention will be used in connection with an electronic medical record and facilitate compliance with HIPAA.
