Abstract: Methods, systems and computer program products for transferring data between mobile devices having heterogeneous wireless communication interfaces includes identifying one or more intermediate mobile devices from social network databases upon detecting an initiation of data transfer from a first mobile device to a second mobile device, wherein the first and second mobile devices have heterogeneous wireless communication interfaces, and wherein the intermediate mobile devices have wireless communication interface compatibility to form an ad hoc wireless network with the first and second mobile devices for transferring data from the first to the second mobile device; implementing the ad hoc wireless network based on availability of the intermediate mobile devices; and transferring the data from the first to the second mobile device through the ad hoc wireless network, wherein said transferring includes hopping the data through each of the intermediate mobile devices from the first to the second mobile device.

Abstract: Methods and arrangements for localizing an outage in a power grid. An outage is detected in a power grid, the power grid comprising interconnected nodes. At least one candidate network topology (in the power grid) with respect to the outage is determined, and power consumption information and measured voltages relative to the nodes in the power grid are received. Voltage at a plurality of the nodes in the power grid is estimated based on the received power consumption information and on the at least one candidate network topology, and a location of the outage is estimated, based on the estimated node voltages and measured voltages. Other variants and embodiments are broadly contemplated herein.

Abstract: Methods and arrangements for providing appliance power management. A connector arrangement is provided for interconnecting an appliance with a power supply. There is identified, with respect to the appliance connected to the power supply, at least one of: an appliance category, a current operating state of the appliance, and a current standby state of the appliance. In response to the identifying of the at least one of: an appliance category, an appliance operating state and an appliance standby state, there is detected at least one of: anomalous appliance behavior and deficient power quality. Also, a control action is undertaken relative to the detection of the at least one of: anomalous appliance behavior and deficient power quality.
