    Abstract: Methods and systems for using an observation platform with an external device are disclosed. A signal is received from a first communication device at a second communication device associated with a computer system. Context information is derived from the signal at the computer system from, a speech to text analysis of the audible source, a policy implemented in the computer system by a controlling enterprise, and inferences calculated by a combination of text analysis, and secondary information contained in the signal. An action is determined to take place at an external device or user device based on the context information, wherein the external device is one of a plurality of external devices and is networked to the second communication device or a plurality of devices. A second signal is sent to the external device to instruct the device to take the action.

    Abstract: In a self-driving autonomous vehicle, a controller architecture includes multiple processors within the same box. Each processor monitors the others and takes appropriate safe action when needed. Some processors may run dormant or low priority redundant functions that become active when another processor is detected to have failed. The processors are independently powered and independently execute redundant algorithms from sensor data processing to actuation commands using different hardware capabilities (GPUs, processing cores, different input signals, etc.). Intentional hardware and software diversity improves fault tolerance. The resulting fault-tolerant/fail-operational system meets ISO26262 ASIL D specifications based on a single electronic controller unit platform that can be used for self-driving vehicles.

    Abstract: An optical transmitter includes a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA) coupled to an input end of a first optical waveguide. An end of the first optical waveguide provides a transmitter output for the optical transmitter. Moreover, a section of the first optical waveguide between the input end and the output end is optically coupled to a ring modulator that modulates an optical signal based on an electrical input signal. A passive ring filter (or a 1×N silicon-photonic switch and a bank of band reflectors) is connected to provide a mirror that reflects light received from the second optical waveguide back toward the RSOA to form a lasing cavity. Moreover, the ring modulator and the passive ring filter have different sizes, which causes a Vernier effect that provides a large wavelength tuning range for the lasing cavity in response to tuning the ring modulator and the passive ring filter.

    Abstract: Embodiments herein provide methods and systems for achieving D2D communications through unlicensed spectrum. The D2D-U operations can be achieved through multiple approaches. In the first approach, the devices can communicate with each other without any involvement of network. In the second approach, the network provides partial assistance to the devices such as allocating time and frequency resources for D2D-U communication. In the third approach, the network completely controls D2D-U operations between the devices. The embodiments include allocating time and frequency resources for transmission of PSBCH, PSDCH, PSCCH, and PSSCH. The allocations of the time and frequency resources meet regulatory requirements of minimum bandwidth utilization for unlicensed band operation. The embodiments include distributing power in narrow frequency sub-bands of D2D-U spectrum, in order to maximize transmission range of D2D-U communications.

    Abstract: In one embodiment, a block data transfer interface employing offload data transfer engine in accordance with the present description includes an offload data transfer engine executing a data transfer command set to transfer a block of data in a transfer data path from a source memory to a new region of a destination memory, wherein the transfer data path bypasses a central processing unit to minimize or reduce involvement of the central processing unit in the block transfer. In response to a successful transfer indication, a logical address is re-mapped to a physical address of the new region of the destination memory, instead of a physical address of the original region of the destination memory. In one embodiment, the re-mapping is performed by a central processing unit. In another embodiment, the re-mapping is performed by the offload data transfer engine.
