  • Publication number: 20150105870
Abstract: Controlled startup of devices is based on dynamic statistical predictions. Timely startup of onboard associated vehicle devices is based on dynamic statistical predictions and driver proximity to the vehicle. An apparatus for timely startup includes an interface operatively coupled with a power consuming device and control logic coupled with the interface. The control logic is operable in a first mode to perform processing for determining a presence of a first condition of the vehicle, and to selectively activate the power consuming device of the vehicle, via the interface, responsive to determining the presence of the first condition. The control logic is operable in a second mode to suspend, via the interface, the processing for determining the presence of the first condition of the vehicle. The control logic selectively transitions between the first and second modes in accordance with a stochastic modeling of the presence of the first condition over time.

  • Patent number: 9009408
Abstract: This invention handles write request cache misses. The cache controller stores write data, sends a read request to external memory for a corresponding cache line, merges the write data with data returned from the external memory and stores merged data in the cache. The cache controller includes buffers with plural entries storing the write address, the write data, the position of the write data within a cache line and unique identification number. This stored data enables the cache controller to proceed to servicing other access requests while waiting for response from the external memory.

  • Patent number: 9009359
Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for efficiently configuring different types of hardware components. A computing device is connected to a hardware component to be configured. The computing device detects the type of the hardware component upon being connected to the hardware component. The computing device then identifies a profile from among multiple profiles associated with the detected type of hardware component, where each profile contains a configuration file(s) for configuring its associated type of hardware component. Upon identifying the profile associated with the connected hardware component, the computing device emulates a Universal Serial Bus (USB) key presenting the configuration file(s) contained in the identified profile to the detected hardware component. Such a process may be repeated for configuring another type of hardware component. In this manner, the user is able to efficiently configure different types of hardware by having the computing device emulate multiple USB keys.

Abstract: Techniques and systems are presented for providing “contextual insights,” or information that is tailored to the context of the content a user is consuming or authoring. Given a request for information about a topic, which may be indicated by a user gesture in an application, one or more queries to search services may be formulated without requiring entry of a search query directly by a user. Moreover, techniques and systems may leverage the context of the content the user is consuming or authoring, as well as user, device, and application metadata, to construct the queries and to organize and filter the results into relevant contextual insights.

  • Publication number: 20150097862
Abstract: Techniques described herein provide a method for defining virtual content for real objects that are unknown or unidentified at the time of the development of the application for an augmented reality (AR) environment. For example, at the time of development of an AR application, the application developer may not know the context that the mobile device may operate in and consequently the types or classes of real object and the number of real objects that the AR application may encounter. In one embodiment, the mobile device may detect unknown objects from a physical scene. The mobile device may then associate an object template with the unknown object based on the physical attributes, such as height, shape, size, etc., associated with the unknown object. The mobile device may render a display object at the pose of the unknown object using at least one display property of the object template.

  • Publication number: 20150098677
Abstract: A chip package includes an optical integrated circuit (such as a hybrid integrated circuit) and an integrated circuit that are adjacent to each other on the same side of a substrate in the chip package. The integrated circuit includes electrical circuits, such as memory or a processor, and the optical integrated circuit communicates optical signals with very high bandwidth. In addition, an input/output (I/O) integrated circuit is coupled to the optical integrated circuit between the substrate and the optical integrated circuit. This I/O integrated circuit includes high-speed I/O circuits and energy-efficient driver and receiver circuits and communicates with optical devices on the optical integrated circuit. By integrating the optical integrated circuit, the integrated circuit and the I/O integrated circuit in close proximity, the chip package may facilitate improved performance compared to chip packages with electrical interconnects.

  • Publication number: 20150098374
Abstract: Power saving for wireless communication devices by adjusting the amount of time, after a last transmission/reception of data, that the device remains in an awake mode listening for more data before the device enters a sleep mode. This time period may be referred to as inactivity time interval or inactivity timeout (ITO). The described features may be employed to improve power savings by taking metrics of channel congestion into account for determining the ITO. The appropriate ITO may be determined to be commensurate with ongoing transmission and/or reception activity. Because error may occur in estimating channel congestion and/or transmission/reception activity, latency bounds based on estimation errors may be managed by classifying the operational mode into multiple regions and employing techniques for mitigating error in congestion estimation based at least in part on the operational mode.
