Patent number: 8612618Abstract: The peer-to-peer DNS networking method network is built over Chord protocol as a secondary path to resolve Domain Name System (DNS) queries as a solution designed to avoid an intentional blocking from higher name servers. The DNS is a critical service in the Internet infrastructure that provides user-friendly name to Internet IP address mapping services, and must be protected from abuse, since the absence of the DNS has a severe impact on several Internet applications, such as HTTP, FTP, and/or e-mail that can cause such applications to become non-functional. The method is designed to keep DNS functional during intentional blocking from higher name servers, and the like.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2011Date of Patent: December 17, 2013Assignees: King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, King Abdulaziz City for Science and TechnologyInventors: Marwan H. Publication number: 20080162037Abstract: The location-based interactive display and communication device and method of using the same provides a mobile device having a housing, a processor, a display, a storage medium adapted for storing a database, a user interface, a communication device and a positioning device. The positioning device determines the geographic location of the mobile device and a visual map of the geographic region about the geographic location is displayed on the display of the mobile device. Icons relating to user-selectable areas of interest are further displayed on the visual map, and the user may select a particular icon to show information related to the particular area of interest. The user may then communicate with the particular area of interest and, further, advertisements related to the geographic region may be selectively displayed on the display. A plurality of visual maps and related information may be stored in the database.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2006Publication date: July 3, 2008Inventor: Ashraf S. Hasan Mahmoud

Publication number: 20080113657Abstract: The method of non-intrusive control of mobile device provides for remote control of ringer sound level and auditory volume of a mobile device, dependent upon the location of the device. A set of location-dependent rules are established and stored in a database. The location of the mobile device is determined and compared to the location-dependent rules in the database. A control signal is transmitted by the wireless mobile network to the mobile device to adjust the ringer sound level and/or auditory volume of the device. Alternatively, the mobile device may be programmed with a user-consent routine, requiring the user to provide consent before the control signal may adjust the volume. If the ringer sound level is set to zero, the user's subsequent messages may be automatically rerouted to a voicemail system.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2006Publication date: May 15, 2008Inventors: Marwan Hassan Abu-Amara, Ashraf S. Patent number: 7193992Abstract: Method and system for managing radio resources to support voice and data traffic. The method uses adaptive resource partitioning between voice and data as the basis for improving call access control. A cost function is used to determine partitioning based on an operator's desired call blocking rates for both incoming voice and data traffic. Other examples of the cost function can be constructed using other quality of service measures for the carried services. In the dynamic burst allocation area, three methods are provided that make use of adaptive burst allocation, scheduled bursts and power borrowing between users as enhancements to the conventional methods used for integrated wide-band CDMA networks. The methods disclosed may be used in isolation as an enhancement to the current CDMA networks, or in combination to provide a combined improvement in network performance. The first scheme for adaptive burst allocation equalizes the rate of information transmitted by different data users.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2001Date of Patent: March 20, 2007Assignee: Nortel Networks LimitedInventors: Ashraf S. Hasan Mahmoud, Robin M. Hudson, Uthman Baroudi, Ian R. Gillespie

Publication number: 20030112762Abstract: The present invention provides adaptive procedures for managing radio resources to support voice and data traffic. This is done in both the call access control area. The method uses adaptive resource partitioning between voice and data as the basis for improving call access control. In particular a cost function is used to determine partitioning based on an operator's desired call blocking rates for both incoming voice and data traffic. Other examples of the cost function can be constructed using other quality of service measures for the carried services as mentioned earlier. In the dynamic burst allocation area, three methods are provided that make use of adaptive burst allocation, scheduled bursts and power borrowing between users as enhancements to the conventional methods used for integrated wide-band CDMA networks.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2001Publication date: June 19, 2003Inventors: Ashraf S.
