  • Patent number: 6410681
Abstract: A process for preparation of alternating polyesteramides comprises reacting carbon monoxide, an aminohydroxy compound and an aromatic polyhalide having at least two halide atoms covalently bonded to an aromatic ring. The said process is conducted in the presence of a solvent, a catalyst and a base.

Date of Patent: June 25, 2002
Assignee: Council of Scientific and Industrial Research
Inventors: Ashutosh Anant Kelkar, Shrikant Madhukar Kulkarni, Raghunath Vitthal Chaudhari
  • Patent number: 6335415
Abstract: Polyesters may be prepared by reacting an amyl diiodide, an aliphatic or aryl diol and carbon monoxide in presence of a catalyst and an organic base. The process is preferentially carried out in a solvent. The catalyst is a heterogeneous catalyst containing a metal selected from a group containing Palladium, Platinum, Nickel and Cobalt. Following the formation of polyester, the catalyst can be easily separated and efficiently recycled.

  • Patent number: 6222002
Abstract: Polycarbonate oligomers are prepared by oxidative carbonylation of a dihydroxyaromatic compound such as bisphenol A in the presence of a catalyst comprising a Group VIII metal such as palladium, an inorganic and/or an organic co-catalyst, a halide source and an alcohol-free solvent comprising at least one liquid aromatic hydrocarbon, optionally in combination with a dipolar aprotic liquid such as N-methylpyrrolidinone. These oligomers may be further polymerized by melt polymerization to precursor polycarbonate oligomers which may be converted to high molecular weight polycarbonates by melt or solid state polymerization.

  • Patent number: 5917077
Abstract: Diaryl carbonates such as diphenyl carbonate are prepared by reaction of hydroxyaromatic compounds such as phenol with oxygen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst composition comprising a Group VIIIB metal such as palladium or a compound thereof, a bromide source such as a quaternary ammonium or hexaalkylguanidinium bromide and a polyaniline in partially oxidized and partially reduced form. The polyaniline is preferably halide-doped and in the form of a blend with a binder polymer containing ether or ester groups and a complex-forming salt.
