Abstract: A method of evaluating the performance of a family of target date funds. A model of the family is constructed using realized rates of return (“returns”) for an evaluation period for each of the funds. The returns for each fund are assigned to the periods of the model corresponding to the periods during which the return was realized by the fund. An estimate of the wealth generated by the family may be determined as a function of the returns assigned to the model and a pattern of contributions. A benchmark portfolio may be selected and used to construct a model of the benchmark portfolio having the same number of periods as the model of the family. The model of the benchmark and the pattern of contributions may be used to determine wealth generated by the benchmark portfolio, which may be compared to the estimate of wealth generated by the family.

In various embodiments, the facility receives an indication of a query defining a term for searching, employs a search provider to perform a search for information items matching a criteria, receives from the search provider an indication of a result corresponding to the query, creates a shareable pinboard collection, receives via a single action an indication to add the result to the shareable pinboard collection, and shares the shareable pinboard collection with a recipient.

In various embodiments, the facility receives from a first user an indication of an information item that is associated with a pinboard collection and is to be shared with a second user, determines a server computing device associated with the second user, and when the server computing device that is associated with the second user is not also associated with the first user, replicates the indicated information item to the determined server computing device.

Abstract: A facility for applying access control permissions is disclosed. In various embodiments, the facility receives an indication of an item for which to modify access control permissions, determines a set of items related to the indicated item, caches a set of relationships between the indicated item and the determined set of items, computes access control permissions for the indicated item, and applies the computed access control permissions to the indicated item when the computed access control permissions are different from the access control permissions actually applied on the indicated item.
