  • Publication number: 20170060437
Abstract: A method for reducing disk read rate by managing dataset mapping of virtual machine (VM) guest memory, comprising: monitoring a plurality of disk read write operations of a VM guest; updating a dataset mapping between disk blocks allocated to the VM guest and corresponding physical addresses of memory pages of the VM guest containing replica of data stored in the disk blocks, based on the plurality of disk read write operations; when identifying writing to one of the memory pages, removing a mapping of corresponding disk block and corresponding physical address of memory page; when reclaiming a mapped memory page of the VM guest by a host of the VM guest, discarding data contained in the memory page; and when the data is requested by the VM guest after it was reclaimed by said host, retrieving the data from corresponding disk block according to the mapping.

  • Publication number: 20170052711
Abstract: Methods, computing systems and computer program products implement embodiments of the present invention that include configuring multiple storage system resources to manage a storage entity distributed among the storage system resources. Upon receiving, by a first given storage system resource from a host computer, an I/O request for data in the storage entity, a second given storage system resource responsible for managing the storage entity data referenced in the I/O request is identified, and the I/O request is forwarded to the second given storage system resource. Upon receiving the forwarded I/O request, the second given storage system resource performs a data compression operation while processing the I/O request, and conveys a result of the I/O operation to the first given storage system resource. Upon receiving the result from the second given storage system resource, the first given storage system resource forwards the result to the host computer.

  • Patent number: 9575894
Abstract: A distributed processing system includes a first site and a second site, each containing at least one device having cache storage, nonvolatile storage, where, in response to moving a process running on the processor of the first site to the processor running on the second site, data in the cache storage of the first site is no longer accessed by the process, the data being read into the cache of the storage of the first site in response to the process accessing data in the non-volatile memory of the first site prior to being moved to the second site. A process running on the processor of the first site moving to the processor running on the second site and corresponding cache slots may be detected by parsing the VMFS containing virtual machine disks used by the process.

  • Patent number: 9573099
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to emulsions, and more particularly, to double and other multiple emulsions. Certain aspects of the present invention are generally directed to the creation of double emulsions and other multiple emulsions at a common junction of microfluidic channels. In some cases, the microfluidic channels at the common junction may have substantially the same hydrophobicity. In one set of embodiments, a device may include a common junction of six or more channels, where a first fluid flows through one channel, a second fluid flows through two channels, and a third or carrying fluid flows through two more channels, such that a double emulsion of a first droplet of the first fluid, contained in a second droplet of the second fluid, contained by the carrying fluid, flows away from the common junction through a sixth channel.

Abstract: Described herein are technologies related to an implementation of a time interleaved digital-to-time converter (DTC) topology to generate high frequency phase modulated local oscillator (LO) signals. A first and second DTC are connected to an oscillator where outputs of the two DTCs are combined to generate a phase modulated signal and the two DTCs have a frequency rate that is half the frequency rate of the phase modulated signal. The two DTCs can operate at a 50 percent or lower duty cycle.

  • Publication number: 20170035916
Abstract: The present invention relates to new molecular design that allows micelles to report their activation and disassembly by an enzymatic trigger. The molecular design is based on introduction of a labeling moiety selected from a fluorescent dye, a dark quencher, combinations of dyes or dyes/quenchers, and a fluorinated moiety (a 19F-magenetic resonance (MR) probe for turn ON/OFF of a 19F-MR signal) through covalent binding to the focal point of amphiphilic polymer-dendron hybrids with the labeling moiety. At the assembled micellar state, the dyes are closely packed and hence the probability for intermolecular interactions increases significantly, leading to alteration of the fluorescent properties (signal quench or shift) or the 19F-MR signal (OFF state) of the micelles. Upon enzymatic cleavage of the hydrophobic end-groups from enzyme-responsive dendron, the polymers become hydrophilic and disassemble.

  • Publication number: 20170037727
Abstract: A rotating liquid ring rotating casing gas turbine (10) has at least one liquid ring rotating casing (13) having an eccentrically mounted impeller (11) adapted to rotate within a surrounding liquid ring (14) so as to form chambers (15) of successively increasing volume between adjacent vanes of the impeller. A working fluid formed by high pressure gas is injected into the impeller where the chambers are narrow via a fluid inlet (19) within a static axial bore (23) of the impeller so as to rotate the impeller and in so doing the gas expands isentropically. A fluid outlet (20) within the static axial bore of the impeller and fluidly separated from the fluid inlet allows the working fluid to escape at low pressure and low temperature.

  • Publication number: 20170038992
Abstract: A just-in-time storage allocation is initiated for storage at a remote storage device having flash storage. Each of multiple containers comprises a grouping of one or more of the flash storage. The just-in-time storage allocation includes an application profile that includes a priority criteria for the storage of either a priority of performance over efficiency or a priority of efficiency over performance. A determination is made of whether at least one container of the multiple containers satisfies the priority criteria based on at least one attribute of the at least one container. The storage is allocated in the at least one container, in response to the at least one container satisfying the priority criteria.
