Abstract: A service is provided to users of communication devices present in a geographic service area. Each device is associated with a specific user. The service comprises conditionally alerting a user, via his/her communication device, to a presence of another device of another user. The alerting occurs if the other user is registered as a buddy of the user and if a geographical distance between the user's device and the buddy's device is smaller than a pre-determined threshold. A succession of polling cycles is run. In each polling cycle, the mobile devices are sequentially polled based on location and according to a ranking determined in a preceding polling cycle that minimizes a value of a sum of terms. Each respective term indicates a respective difference between rankings of the mobile device of the respective user and of the mobile device of the buddy of the respective user.

Abstract: A service is provided to an end-user of a first data communication device when receiving via a data network a plurality of data packets from a second data communication device. At least a particular data packet has been marked with node attribute data by one or more network nodes. The attribute data is indicative of a path of the data packet across the data network. An identifier, as declared by the second device is determined and correlated with one or more reference identifiers registered in advance. If there is a correlation, the node attribute data is correlated with reference attribute data registered in advance as associated with the reference identifier. If there is a discrepancy between the node attribute data and the reference attribute data, an alert is issued.

Abstract: At a network access point, the requests are monitored that clients submit to a plurality of server addresses. A database is formed for mapping of the client population onto the server addresses. This enables determining which of the server addresses are more popular than others with a specific segment of the client population. Segmenting the client population is based on commonalities in attributes extracted from the requests. This mapping enables other data network services such as web portals and search engines to target specific segments of the client population.

Abstract: A service is provided on a data network. The data network comprises a plurality of clients and one or more servers. Each specific client has a specific network address. In a database, respective groups are formed of the network addresses. Each respective group has a respective profile. Each respective profile is determined by one or more respective commonalities in requests sent by the clients to the one or more servers over a period of time. Each specific network address is grouped in at least one specific group based on the requests sent by the specific client and matching a specific profile.

Abstract: According to this invention content can be uploaded by an upload device (1) to a content distribution system (10) after which the content is broadcast automatically to a content receiving device (5). Information additional to the uploaded content can be used to determine via which broadcast channel the content should be broadcasted. The additional information is analyzed by the control unit (15) that is comprised by the content distribution system (10). The content distribution system (10) also may comprise an encoding unit (12) that can be used for the automatically conversion between different encoding formats of the uploaded content and the content to be distributed.

Abstract: A data processing apparatus has a data processor manager that checks and updates the credit account that is associated with the usage of a software application at the apparatus. The processor manager determines whether or not to proceed with execution of the software application dependent on the number of processor cycles left in the credit account. If the number of processor cycles in the account falls below a predetermined threshold, the software application is barred from being executed further. The user then can replenish the account by means of purchasing or otherwise obtaining further credits in terms of processor cycles for spending on the future execution of the software application. In this manner, a scenario is implemented for a business model based on prepaid software wherein the user pays exactly for the actual usage in terms of processor cycles.

The service receives from the first party data including a first identifier for identifying the first party to the service, and a second identifier for identifying the second party to the service when combined with the first identifier. The data is used as an entry to a database for determining a communication address of the second party. The service then initiates the communication between the first and second parties on the basis of the communication address determined.
