Patent number: 8218433Abstract: A system, method, and device for monitoring the connectivity of a network that has been configured in a ring topology, such as an Ethernet ring network. The ring network includes a plurality of nodes, each with first port and a second port for forwarding CC messages to respective neighbor nodes, and an MEP for forming and processing the CC messages. Of the plurality of network nodes, neighbor nodes are selected as CC forwarding nodes and, after a database on each node has been configured, the selected nodes begin sending CC messages to each other via the ring network, beginning with transmission to a non-selected node. If a selected node fails to receive an expected CC message, it transmits a fault notification and ceases sending CC messages. The network then reselects CC message forwarding nodes, which begin forwarding CC messages until another fault is detected or the network is otherwise reconfigured.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2009Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Kamakshi Sridhar, Atiya Suhail, David Elie-Dit-Cosaque

Patent number: 8204192Abstract: A call documentation system (10) stores a call log of calls for a user in a call log database (30). The user can prepare a note (22) and the system associates the note with an entry in the call note database (30). Typically, notes are stored in a log notes database (32) which is linked to the call note database (30) through a database manager (29). Notes can be shared with other users.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2004Date of Patent: June 19, 2012Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Atiya Suhail, Kashipati G. Patent number: 8165108Abstract: A communication system includes a plurality of network devices that communicate using one or more protocols, such as SIP. Graphical terminals (30) communicate with the network devices. Graphical servers (32) provide a graphical user interface for the graphics terminals (30) responsive to signaling messages received by the graphical terminals (30) and forwarded to the graphical server (32) in a service request. As the user operates the interface to perform functions, graphical information on the user's actions is sent to the associated graphical server (32). The graphical server (32) interprets the graphical information and updates the graphical interface and/or generates service requests for signaling messages to create, modify and terminate communication sessions as desired by the user, using the appropriate protocol.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 2002Date of Patent: April 24, 2012Assignee: Alcatel-LucentInventors: Vincent Mouilleron, Kashipati G. Publication number: 20100165831Abstract: A system, device, and method for aggregating traffic in a network, such as for wireless backhaul traffic in a cellular communication system. UE device traffic is sent to and from an access bridge, which is one node in an access network formed into a ring topology, and from the access bridge to a core bridge in communication with a core network of the communication system. According to a preferred embodiment, the access bridge and the core bridge each have a LAG component configured according to IEEE 802.1D and IEEE 802.3-2005, and a ring component configured according to IEEE 802.1Q or 802.1AD. In operation, this LAG component load balances communication traffic coming into the bridge node onto one of two VLANs formed of portions of the access network ring. In the event of a fault condition affecting one of the two VLANs, the fault VLAN is removed from the aggregation scheme until the fault condition is alleviated.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 30, 2008Publication date: July 1, 2010Inventors: David Elie-Dit-Cosaque, Atiya Suhail, Kamakshi Sridhar

Patent number: 7720213Abstract: A phone (12) identifies the nature of a desired communication by receiving data related to a purpose of the communication from parsers (26) and comparing the data to predetermined criteria specified by filters (24). A ring tone is selected from a set of ring tone responsive to the comparison. The ring tone could provide either audio or tactile stimulation, or both. Tactile stimulation could be provided, for example through different vibration patterns. Alternatively, a graphic may be shown responsive to the comparison.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 2004Date of Patent: May 18, 2010Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Snehal Desai, Atiya Suhail, Kashipati G. Patent number: 7688742Abstract: A system and method for monitoring end nodes using Ethernet Connectivity Fault Management (CFM) in an access network. In one embodiment, a broadband access server (BRAS) is operable to generate an Ethernet CFM frame that includes a query message with respect to a particular end node. An interworking function (IWF) entity associated with an access node that services the particular end node is operable to interpret the Ethernet CFM frame and construct a corresponding query message in a native protocol compatible with the particular end node. Upon receiving a reply message from the particular end node, the IWF entity constructs a suitable reply Ethernet CFM frame for transmission to the BRAS, wherein the reply Ethernet CFM frame includes a response corresponding to the reply message from the end node.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2005Date of Patent: March 30, 2010Assignee: Alcatel LucentInventors: Kamakshi Sridhar, Sven Ooghe, Maarten Petrus Joseph Vissers, Atiya Suhail
