    Abstract: A storage apparatus comprises a controller. Another storage apparatus including a first communication port is coupled to a network, and a first identification number with which a server accesses a first storage area is set in the first communication port. A second communication port in the storage apparatus is closed when the storage apparatus is in a standby state. The controller controls access to the second storage area by opening the second communication port in a case where an operation of the other storage apparatus stops and the storage apparatus transitions to the active state, using the first identification number, and execute diagnosis of the second communication port by changing the first identification number to a second identification number and opening the second communication port in a case where the diagnosis is executed when the storage apparatus is in the standby state.
