  • Patent number: 7561825
Abstract: A discharge tray is provided on a predetermined surface of an image forming unit for receiving a recording medium discharged from the image forming unit. The image reading unit is disposed in confrontation with the discharge tray for reading an image from an original document. The coupling portion is disposed at a first position on the image forming unit. The coupling portion couples the image reading unit with the image forming unit, allowing the image reading unit to pivotally move about a first pivoting axis. The image reading unit is pivotally movable between a closed position for covering the discharge tray and an open position for exposing the discharge tray. The pivoting-restricting portion is disposed at a second position different from the first position. The pivoting-restricting portion restricts pivotal movement of the image reading unit past the open position in an opening direction.

  • Patent number: 7429039
Abstract: A hinge device is configured that when a cover is opened, a support-section-side pivot shaft is guided upward by a fixed-section-side guide groove; and a fixed-section-side pivot shaft is guided while being restricted in downward movement by a support-section-side guide groove which tilts in accordance with a pivot operation of the cover. As a result, occurrence of interference between a frontward edge of the cover and an upper face of a document ejection tray can be prevented without causing the frontward edge to move lower than its position in a face-down state. In addition, chattering of the cover during the opening/closing operations can also be prevented.

  • Publication number: 20080124118
Abstract: An image forming apparatus, such as a printer, may have a horizontally-loaded drawer containing, for example, a toner cartridge or an image forming unit having toner. The apparatus may have an opening through which the drawer is inserted, and a cover over the opening. The cover may include two or more protrusions to assist in forcing the drawer into place as the cover is closed. The cover may include a first protrusion that is closer to the cover's hinge, and a second that is farther from the hinge than the first. The first protrusion may also be longer, extending further from the cover, than the second, so that during the closing operation, the first protrusion makes contact with the drawer before the second. The points of contact on the drawer may be angled and/or curved such that the force exerted by the protrusions directs the drawer horizontally and, if desired, downwardly towards an operating position.

  • Patent number: 6882809
Abstract: A laser printer for forming toner images on sheets includes a duct wall and a shutter. The duct wall extends between a process cartridge, which is filled with toner, and a thermal fixing unit, which generates heat to fix toner images onto the sheets. The duct wall defines a duct and is formed with openings at its side that faces the thermal fixing unit. A fan is provided for drawing hot air from the thermal fixing unit, through the openings in the duct wall and the duct itself, and out from the laser printer. The shutter moves in and out of contact with the process cartridge in association with opening and closing movement of a cover of the laser printer. When the shutter is in contact with the process cartridge, an exhaust chamber is formed that connects an ozone exhaust hole of the process cartridge with the duct. Another fan is provided for drawing the ozone generated by a charge unit of the process cartridge through the ozone exhaust hole, the exhaust chamber, and the duct.

  • Patent number: 6847795
Abstract: Provided is an image forming apparatus that is capable of reducing noise ascribable to wind noise of fans by performing control of the rotation speed of each cooling fan even during a print process. After power-on at timing T0, when a fixing temperature reaches a waiting temperature (timing T1) or after a print process is finished (timings T3, T6, and T9), a laser printer 1 enters a ready mode and a sub-fan and a power supply fan are driven to rotate at middle speed. From the start of a print process performed for the first time (timing T2), until timing T5 at which a counter X has counted four minutes, each fan is driven to rotate at middle speed during the print process (timings T2 to T3 and T4 to T5). After the, each fan is driven to rotate at high speed (timings T5 to T6 and T8 to T9). Then, when a counter Y has counted a time period set for the ready mode and then a counter Z has counted a time period set for a sleep mode, the counter X is reset.

  • Patent number: 6331003
Abstract: A recording medium discharging apparatus which can be mounted on top of the image forming apparatus includes a plurality of recording medium storers and a locking mechanism for locking the discharging apparatus to the image forming apparatus when the discharging apparatus is mounted on the image forming apparatus. The locking mechanism includes a release lever for unlocking the discharging apparatus by being manipulated to shift in the same direction as the discharging apparatus moves away from the image forming apparatus to be dismounted from it. The locking mechanism prevents the discharging apparatus from falling off the image forming apparatus even if external force is applied to the discharging apparatus mounted on the image forming apparatus. The release lever for unlocking the discharging apparatus makes it easy to dismount the discharging apparatus from the image forming apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6308952
Abstract: A paper sheet discharge apparatus comprises a transport roller that transports paper sheets discharged from an image-forming apparatus, a plurality of switching flappers that guide the paper sheets to desired bins, and a plurality of delivery rollers that discharge the paper sheets via the switching flappers to the bins. The paper sheets are reliably stored in the desired bins without decreasing their transport speed by the aid of the transport roller, the switching flappers, and the delivery rollers. The power from a motor is transmitted only to the delivery rollers which are used to discharge the paper sheets while being interlocked with the specified switching flapper.
