Patent number: 6868810Abstract: To provide a bearing device for a rotary shaft which can further restrain the damage to a sliding bearing, by determining the position of a parting surface of the sliding bearing taking into account the position of the maximum pressure of an oil film. A bearing device includes a pair of sliding bearings for rotatably bearing a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine, and an oil supply passage for supplying a lubricating oil into clearances between the crankshaft and the sliding bearings. The sliding bearings are composed of bearing halves bisected at a parting surface located on a flat plane, substantially orthogonal to the direction of the maximum pressure of the oil films, formed of the lubricating oil in the clearances. The bearing device is applicable to an internal combustion engine including a cylinder having an inclined cylinder axis, which reduces the vibration and noise of the internal combustion engine.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2003Date of Patent: March 22, 2005Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Atsuo Hojo, Hiroatsu Inui, Takanori Osuka, Masashi Koyanagi

Patent number: 5657830Abstract: An electrically operated saddle type vehicle includes a vehicle frame having at least one front wheel supported on a front wheel supporting member mounted adjacent to a front portion of the vehicle frame and at least one rear wheel supported on a rear wheel supporting member mounted adjacent to a rear portion of the vehicle frame. An electric motor is supported on the vehicle frame between the front wheel and the rear wheel and includes a front portion positioned adjacent to the front wheel. A transmission member is operatively connected to the electric motor and at least one of the front and rear wheels for providing propulsion for the vehicle. Wherein air is directed to contact the electric motor while the vehicle is in motion for cooling the electric motor during use.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1995Date of Patent: August 19, 1997Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushini KaishaInventors: Yoshinori Kawashima, Atsuo Hojo, Masayoshi Ryu

Patent number: 5038634Abstract: A power transmission system comprises a hydrostatic continuously variable transmission constituted by integrally and coaxially coupling a pump cylinder of a swashplate type hydraulic pump with a motor cylinder of a swashplate type hydraulic motor. The transmission is rotatably supported at its opposite ends on a bearing. A first transmission device connected to an engine is connected to an input member of the pump from one side of the transmission, and a second transmission device connected to a load member is connected to an output member of the pump on the radially opposite side of the transmission. The first and second transmission devices are disposed adjacent each other near one end of the continuously variable transmission. This permits the points of action of loads on the input and output members from the first and second transmission devices to be placed in close vicinity to each other, thereby reducing the swinging moment and the flexing moment acting on the transmission due to these loads.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1989Date of Patent: August 13, 1991Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Takushi Matsuto, Tsutomu Hayashi, Yoshihiro Nakajima, Atsuo Hojo

Patent number: 4938024Abstract: In a hydrostatic continuously variable transmission, a pump cylinder of a swashplate type hydraulic pump is integrally and coaxially coupled with a motor cylinder of a swashplate type hydraulic motor. A number of distributor valves are radially arranged for reciprocal movement between radially inner and outer positions to put a large number of pump ports in the hydraulic pump into communication with the higher and lower pressure oil passages, and an eccentric ring circumscribed about the distributor valves is connected to an input member of the hydraulic pump for movement between a clutch OFF position and a clutch ON position. A clutch spring is connected to the eccentric ring for biasing the eccentric ring toward the clutch OFF position, and a weight is added to the eccentric ring and adapted to exhibit a centrifugal force for moving the eccentric ring toward the clutch ON position against a spring force of the clutch spring.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1989Date of Patent: July 3, 1990Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Takushi Matsuto, Tsutomu Hayashi, Yoshihiro Nakajima, Kazuhiko Nakamura, Atsuo Hojo
