  • Patent number: 6694255
Abstract: Branch-point image data has coordinates added thereto according to the distance from a branch point such as an intersection. When the vehicle is within a predetermined distance from a branch point on a suggested route, the coordinates of the present position of the vehicle and the coordinates added to the branch-point image data are compared to locate the present position on the image data, and a present-position mark is displayed superimposed on the branch-point image data. The displayed present-position mark moves according to the distance between the vehicle and the branch point.

  • Patent number: 6023653
Abstract: The navigation apparatus gives, to a map match processing portion, the measured present location and progress bearing of the vehicle with the use of the position bearing measuring portion for each predetermined period. The map match processing portion reads out the road data about the road close to the measured present position from the memory apparatus to effect the map match processing with respect to each link in accordance with the road data for correcting the measured present position. The correcting operation is effected only when the frequency, where the similarity degree with respect to the measured present position and progress bearing at this time is judged to be larger than the predetermined threshold value, is larger than the predetermined constant Ck. The road data are visually displayed on the visual displaying region of the displaying apparatus. The predetermined diagrams are displayed in a superimposed manner, in the corrected present position, on the road data visually displayed.

  • Patent number: 5906653
Abstract: A processing apparatus within a navigation system comprises a track calculating portion for subsequently memorizing a bearing detected by a bearing sensor to calculate a track, and a map match processing portion for performing the map matching process. A position correcting portion corrects a vehicle position onto a road in accordance with road data 35 by the map match processing portion 34. The bearing correction is not effected when the bearing difference conditions are established although a bearing correcting portion 39 corrects the bearing showing the progressive direction of the vehicle into the link bearing of the road. The bearing difference condition is a condition where the bearing difference between the link bearing and the bearing showing the progressive direction of the vehicle is large, and there is a possibility of further increasing the error when the error of the bearing showing the progressive direction of the vehicle is large and the correction is effected in the link bearing.

  • Patent number: 5465089
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for guidance of a road condition for providing prospective information concerning a configuration of a forthcoming curve or intersection on a traveling route for ensuring safe driving, particularly in the dark or roads such as winding roads, mountainous roads and so forth. The apparatus includes a detecting circuit for detecting a traveling link among a plurality of links in road information on which a vehicle is traveling; a circuit for detecting an instantaneous position of the vehicle and a traveling direction of the vehicle; and a circuit for calculating a distance from the instantaneous vehicle position to a forthcoming end of the traveling link on the basis of the instantaneous vehicle position and the traveling direction.

  • Patent number: 5297050
Abstract: The present invention involves a direction sensor and a navigation system containing the direction sensor. The direction sensor has an earth magnetism sensor and a rate gyro sensor that calculates a compensated direction by weighted means process of the outputs from the earth magnetism sensor and the rate gyro sensor. The compensated direction has a high detection accuracy similar to the rate gyro sensor over a short time period, but does not have an error accumulation of the rate gyro sensor during a long time interval because the rate gyro sensor is substantially calibrated with the accurate direction obtained by the averaging outputs of the earth magnetism sensor. The navigation system has distribution information of the magnetic disturbances to the earth magnetism on a map and it reduces the weighted mean ration to the earth magnetism sensor when the magnetic disturbance at the locating position is large.
