    Abstract: The subject invention is a lithium battery comprising a positive electrode mainly of vanadium pentoxide, a negative electrode mainly of lithium doped niobium pentoxide, and, an electrolyte mainly of an anhydrous solvent with dissolved lithium salt. By using for the said niobium pentoxide a mixture of T type and H type crystals heat treated at 850.degree. to 1300.degree. C., preferably 850.degree. to 1100.degree. C., a lithium battery having superior charging cycle characteristics and also having high discharge voltage is obtained.
