Abstract: The present teaching relates to creating and updating a user profile related to multiple devices, and synchronizing applications' sessions for the user on different devices. Upon execution of a first application on a first device, a first device ID associated with the first device and information about the first application are received. A user profile is created based on the first device ID and the information about the first application. Upon execution of a second application on a second device related to the first device, a second device ID associated with the second device and information about the second application are received. The user profile is updated based on the second device ID and the information about the second application. Further, the information about the first application is applied to the execution of the second application on the second device, or vice-versa.

Abstract: An approach is provided for proxy-based sharing of access histories. A proxy platform causes, at least in part, storage of an access history at a proxy server, the access history associated with a client of the proxy server. The proxy platform determines to provide access to the access history to one or more other clients of the proxy server. The access enables, at least in part, the one or more other clients to access one or more communication endpoints, one or more resources, or combination thereof associated with the access history via the proxy server.

Abstract: A system and method for dynamically customizing and/or configuring applications on devices. The user interface of a base application resident on a terminal can be modified in accordance with the invention. Terminal-related information is transmitted from the terminal upon initial activation of the base application at the terminal. The terminal-related information is received at a configuration server system, where application variant information for the terminal is derived based on the terminal-related information. This application variant information is transmitted back to the terminal, and the user interface of the base application is modified as specified by the application variant information.

A value for the parameter is received in response to sending the request. Performing a function of the application based on the value received for the parameter is initiated. The value for the parameter is used by a different mobile application of the plurality of related applications.

Abstract: As the web and Internet evolves to supporting e-commerce, many sites offer customers the possibility of purchasing items or products online. Many new web sites have been created that aggregate product descriptions from multiple data sources and present those aggregated descriptions to their online customers with some added value, e.g., the best deal. It is therefore crucial that descriptions of products from different data sources be tested if they refer to the same product. The present invention derives equivalent descriptions from individually presented descriptions where possible using heuristics, healing identifier values, and deriving said equivalences under probability estimations.

Abstract: A system for providing devices such as WCDs, televisions, stereos, video game systems, etc. access to media content through an entity such as a web server. In accordance with at least one embodiment, UPnP or DLNA compliant devices may utilize a user's home network to access a user's media library from on an online media service. The media service may provide a user interface to the device to enable the user to access his media library. The media may be stored on a networked storage device connected to the media service, on the user's network devices, on the user's WCD, etc. The media service may automatically query the user's WCD to determine the presence of other persons in his proximity, and determine their preferences. A customized media stream that is suitable for the whole group may be generated based at least in part on the combined preferences of the group.

Abstract: A system and method is described for integrating actionable content on to web pages. Actionable content is content that relates to actions that a user may carry out in response to viewing or interacting with the integrated content. Users actions may involve monitoring the properties of products being presented on web pages and taking actions when certain conditions have been met by the underlying properties of objects, such as availability or price constraints. It is shown that the changes to the products result in objects that are themselves browsable, and as such the changes constitute an overlay web to the underlying web pages. A new class of actionable content is described whose rendering is controlled primarily by policies based on the internal state of represented objects, or on combinations of external and internal policies.

Abstract: An approach is provided for authenticating a mobile device. A mobile device initiates transmission of a request to an authentication platform for generating a public-key certificate to access a service from the mobile device. The mobile device receives an identity challenge and responds by initiating transmission of a tag specific to the mobile device to the authentication platform. The authentication platform uses the tag to generate a public-key certificate.
