  • Patent number: 6352112
Abstract: A flexible swage comprises a swage cup and a support receivable in a swage cup. The swage cup and support are separable in order to promote distinct purposes. The first purpose is to allow the swage to act as such and reform a deformed junction when the support is engaged with the swage cup thus supporting it against deflection. The second purpose is to remove the swage from the deformed junction at which time deflection in the swage cup is beneficial. Thus, the support is removed from engagement with the swage cup thereby allowing the swage cup to deform and be removed from the reformed junction more easily.

  • Patent number: 5513703
Abstract: There are disclosed methods and apparatus for perforating and treating zones of a well, as by hydraulic fracturing, stimulating and acidizing, and otherwise performing related activities within a well, wherein a plurality of perforating assemblies containing shaped charges are connected as part of a casing liner which is lowered into a well bore and then anchored therein by a column of cement in the annulus between the liner and bore to locate the assemblies opposite zones in a horizontal section of the well. Work strings are lowered into selected assemblies to cause tools carried thereby to sequentially detonate the shaped charges to perforate the zone opposite thereto and to selectively open or close the perforated zones by shifting a sleeve within a housing of the assembly as well as treating the perforated zones.

  • Patent number: 5413173
Abstract: Well apparatus is disclosed in which a tool is lowered on a pipe string into a well conduit for shifting a sleeve slidably mounted within a tubular housing connected as part of the well conduit. The sleeve has vertically spaced grooves about its inner diameter, and the tool has latches which are selectively moved into and out of engagement with a selected groove in the sleeve in response to the control of the pressure of fluid within the tool. When engaged in a groove, the tool may be raised or lowered with the pipe string to raise or lower the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5095978
Abstract: There is disclosed a well packer assembly which comprises a packer which includes a body having a bore therethrough and a packing element and slips carried about the body in contracted position. The packer is lowered into a well bore by means of a locator seal unit which includes a tubular member connectable as part of a well tubing and extending sealably within the bore of the tubular member. The tubular member is automatically released from its connection to the packer in response to expansion of the packing element and slips into engagement with the well bore and testing of the set packer by means of test fluid in the annulus above it. The packing element and slips are expanded by inhibitor fluid from a source at surface level, and the inhibitor fluid is released into the annulus below the packer after it is set.

  • Patent number: 4794989
Abstract: There is disclosed apparatus for use in completing oil or gas wells having two or more perforated production zones which includes packers and assemblies for closing off the annular space between the tubing string and the well bore intermediate adjacent zones to isolate one from the other in order to produce from each individually.

  • Patent number: 4505332
Abstract: There is disclosed a dual well string, hydraulically operated, retrievable packer in which one mandrel connectible with one well string is releasably connected to the body means of the packer to permit it to be lowered therewith, and the other mandrel connectible to the other well string is vertically reciprocable with respect to the body means and thus with respect to the first-mentioned mandrel. The packing element and slip assembly of the packer are supported on and carried about a first body section, and a second body section includes an expander plate which is movable relative to the first body section to expand the packing element and the slip assembly into engagement with the well bore by means of a hydraulically actuated mechanism including pistons reciprocable within cylinders formed in the first body section and connected to the expander plate by means of a pair of rods.

  • Patent number: 4396066
Abstract: An improved apparatus and method are provided for effecting a sealed connection to an upstanding end of a tubular member in a subterranean well where the upstanding end of the tubular member is of irregular configuration at one end. A connecting housing is lowered by a tubing string over the upstanding end of the tubular member and is provided internally with an annular elastomeric seal element and two pairs of cooperating slip elements respectively disposed above and below the annular seal. The actuation of the slip elements to engage the housing with the tubular member is such that a predetermined amount of compression force can be applied to the annular seal to insure that the seal will resist the normal fluid pressures encountered in the well operation, but forces in excess of such predetermined limit are not applied to the seal by the manipulative movements of the reconnected tubing string.
