  • Patent number: 4179396
Abstract: Single addition organic-inorganic blend emulsion breaking compositions suitable for breaking oil-in-water emulsions are prepared which consist essentially of an aqueous solution of a water soluble acidic aluminum salt and a water soluble quaternized dehydration condensation polymer of triethanolamine or acylated triethanolamine, or mixtures of triethanolamine and acylated triethanolamine, said polymer containing tertiary amino groups of which 20-100% are quaternized.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 23, 1978
Date of Patent: December 18, 1979
    Assignee: Nalco Chemical Company
Inventors: Robert K. Gabel, William H. Lindenberger, Audrone M. Pavilcius
  • Patent number: 4141854
Abstract: A method of resolving water-in-oil emulsions resulting from the organic solvent extraction of uranium from aqueous leach liquors which comprises treating said emulsions with at least 20 parts per million of a water-soluble acrylamide copolymer which contains from 5 - 50% by weight of a lower alkyl substituted tertiary aminoethyl methacrylate and quaternary ammonium salts thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 14, 1977
Date of Patent: February 27, 1979
    Assignee: Nalco Chemical Company
Inventors: Audrone M. Pavilcius, Mary Ann Latko
  • Patent number: 4139451
Abstract: A method for dewatering tar-water mixtures obtained from the coking of coal is disclosed. The method involves adding to the tar from 150 to 3,000 ppm of a di-tri butyl ethoxylated phenol compound dissolved in water, heating the tar-water mixture, and then agitating it to allow contact with the chemical additive. This is followed by allowing the mixture to settle forming an aqueous upper phase and a lower dewatering tar phase.

Date of Patent: February 13, 1979
    Assignee: Nalco Chemical Company
