  • Patent number: 4049725
Abstract: Aldehydes branched at the second carbon are surprisingly hydrogenated selectively in good yield to the corresponding primary alcohols over a copper catalyst by using a hydrogen/carbon monoxide mixture having molar ratio about 2/1; simultaneously said mixture is depleted of hydrogen to a level where it can be used directly in the Oxo-hydroformylation process without further pretreatment.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 23, 1975
Date of Patent: September 20, 1977
    Assignee: Produits Chimiques Ugine Kuhlmann
    Inventors: Auguste Gueant, Serge Mercier
  • Patent number: 4018805
Abstract: Fatty acids are made from corresponding carboxylate soaps by a method which comprises dissolving the soaps in at least one fatty acid in a melted state in the absence of oxygen, contacting the liquid solution of soap in fatty acid with an aqueous solution containing an amount of strong mineral acid at least stoichiometrically equivalent to the soap and allowing the cations of soap and strong acid to exchange phases, the amount of water being just sufficient to dissolve substantially all of the mineral salt thus formed.

Date of Patent: April 19, 1977
    Assignee: Produits Chimiques Ugine Kuhlmann
