    Abstract: The invention is directed towards an automated shearing system for shearing a carpet from a first height to a desired height. Such system may include a number of pile height sensors, control units, shear heads, motors, and databases. The system determines how much carpet can be sheared by each shear head and actuates the shear head accordingly. Shearing a carpet to a desired height may require about one up to about three passes through the system. Methods of measuring a carpet, determining how much to shear the carpet, and shearing the carpet are included.
