  • Patent number: 9986988
Abstract: A surgical retractor and configured to minimize tearing of the gloves without compromising the ability to grip tissue. The surgical retractor has a handle, a blade, and a plurality of retraction elements. The retraction elements may be fixed to the blade but arranged in a specific configuration that minimizes tearing of the gloves without compromising the ability to grip tissue. The retraction elements may also be made deployable by having a deployed configuration in which the retraction elements are exposed, and a stowed configuration it which the retraction elements are hidden.

  • Patent number: 9855085
Abstract: A bone cement applicator for applying a bone cement to a bone surface is provided. The bone cement applicator includes a bone cement receiver, a first housing and a second housing. The bone cement receiver has a first opening to be connected with a bone cement supplier supplying the bone cement. The first housing is connected with the bone cement receiver. The second housing is connected with the first housing. A cavity is formed between the first housing and the second housing. The cavity is in fluid communication with the first opening. The second housing includes a contact surface and a plurality of holes. The contact surface is in contact with the bone surface. The holes are located on the contact surface, in which the bone cement reaches the bone surface after sequentially flowing through the first opening, the cavity, and the holes.

  • Publication number: 20170340282
Abstract: Within examples, a surgical device with an embedded sensor system for performing hip replacements is described. This device mitigates fracturing of the mid metaphyseal/diaphyseal region of the femur, and ensures adequate press-fit of the component into the bone. The device relays information regarding forces experienced by the patient's bone to a separate data acquisition device and displays it on an interface. This information is used by the surgeon to determine the force present inside of the patient's bone during broaching, and can then be used to provide better care, and mitigate fractures due to overloading in the bone.

  • Publication number: 20170312084
Abstract: An example implant device includes a base having a surface that mates with bone, and a plurality of tapered protrusions positioned on the base and extending from the surface of the base that mates with bone. A surface of the plurality of tapered protrusions includes a textured surface to increase area for bone growth. An example method for inserting the implant device into bone includes forcing the plurality of tapered protrusions of the implant device into the bone, and securing the implant device in place without cement due to the plurality of tapered protrusions cutting into the bone for fixation of the implant device.

  • Patent number: 9801727
Abstract: A tibial base plate for attaching to a resected surface at a proximal end of a tibia is provided. The tibial base plate includes a bridge, a pair of compartments and a stem. The bridge has a first contact surface sitting on the resected surface. The compartments are disposed at opposite sides of the bridge and extend in an anterior-posterior direction to form a notch to accommodate a tibial eminence. Each of the compartments has a second contact surface sitting on the resected surface. The stem is connected to the bridge and the compartments and inset into the proximal end of the tibia. The stem has an outer surface. The outer surface is canted towards the notch as insetting into the proximal end of the tibia. The stem is engaged with a cutting slot on the resected surface into the proximal end of the tibia.

  • Patent number: 9629641
Abstract: A rasp for shaping a bone is provided. The rasp includes a housing, a driving mechanism, a first gear assembly, two linkage units and two blades. The housing has a channel along a first axis. The driving mechanism has an output gear rotating about the first axis. The first gear assembly rotates about a second axis and is driven by the output gear. The first gear assembly has a first and a second rotation surfaces. A first and a second connection points are respectively located on the first and the second rotation surfaces. The linkage units slidably pass through the channel. The first end of each of the linkage units is pivotally connected to the corresponding connection point, such that the second ends move along the first axis in a reciprocating manner. The blades are respectively and detachably connected to the second ends.

  • Publication number: 20160287282
Abstract: A single-handed meniscal biter instrument for probing and resecting meniscal tissue. The instrument includes a main body configured to be held by one hand and a cutting mechanism coupled to the main body and configured to be operable by the same hand while held. The instrument also includes an extendable probe coupled to the main body, wherein the probe is configured to the independently operable by the same hand while being held.

  • Publication number: 20160151224
Abstract: A surgical leg positioner capable of bending the knee in varus or valgus while simultaneously distracting the tibia from the femur, the leg positioner having a thigh clamp module, a swing arm module connected to the thigh clamp module in a manner that offsets a joint axis laterally to the side of the knee of the patient so as not to damage the opposite compartment of the knee when bent in varus or valgus, and a rail lock assembly to lock the knee in varus or valgus. The swing arm module also distracts the knee simultaneously when the knee is bent in varus or valgus. The swing arm module also permits flexion and extension of the knee at the knee's natural flexion-extension axis. The surgical leg positioner also utilizes a thigh brace that properly aligns the leg on the surgical leg positioner.
