  • Patent number: 6817565
Abstract: A novel apparatus and method of a take-up shaft used in the cleaning of a cylinder of a printing press. The take-up shaft includes features that allow the securing of a cleaning fabric from a supply roll without the need to physically fix or mount the fabric to the supply roll with screws or other fasteners that could cause the fabric to tear.

  • Publication number: 20030230210
Abstract: A rotary printing press for printing on different width paper. The printing press utilizes multiple rotating plate cylinders of different width size housed in an independently rotating magazine which allows for printing on sheet fed or web paper without having to change printing modules or ink transfer cylinders. The multiple rotating cylinders of different width size are engaged with a continuous ink transfer device which transfers the ink from the imaged inked plate to the paper or printed substrate. This press may be utilized to print on both sides of the paper or printed substrate by combining two printing presses on either side of the paper or printed substrate.

  • Publication number: 20030209159
Abstract: A bladder for bringing and engaging a cleaning cloth into contact with a blanket cylinder. The bladder has a molded (extruded or machined) shape optimized to, when inflated, provide a contact surface elevated above the remainder of the bladder. When the bladder is not inflated, the central portion is elevated above the remainder. In addition, the device has improved contact characteristics, providing significant improvement in the consistency of contact surface with less sensitivity to pressure fluctuations between the cylinder and the bladder over prior art.

  • Publication number: 20030209158
Abstract: A continuous conditioning system for a printing belt or cylinder in a printing press includes a conditioning device and a cleaning device. The continuous conditioning system is designed to improve print quality by removing and/or significantly reducing transferability of excessive or wet ink, debris, residue or shadows from previous impressions that accumulate on a printing belt or cylinder. The conditioning device includes a conditioning cloth which is in the form of a belt that is in continuous engagement with the printing belt or cylinder. The continuous conditioning system may include a cleaning cloth which is in the form of a belt that is periodically brought in engagement with the printing belt or cylinder. The conditioning device and the cleaning device each have a cloth-rinsing/cleaning device for cleaning the conditioning cloth which is in the form of a belt and cleaning cloth which is in the form of a belt after they contact the printing belt or cylinder.

  • Patent number: 5525035
Abstract: An integral structure comprised of inner and outer coaxial shells mutually supported so as to define an annular passageway between the shells. The integral structure may be an air inlet housing for a gas turbine engine and the inner shell may be a hub member having a generally cylindrical passage extending therethrough for rotatably receiving a drive shaft. The inner shell has an outer surface of revolution. A plurality of duct preforms each include an inner duct surface shaped to congruently mate with said outer surface of said inner member, an outer duct surface spaced from said inner duct surface, and first and second lateral walls having opposed lateral surfaces. The duct member preforms are mounted onto the outer surface of the inner member in side-by-side relationship such that the first and second lateral walls on adjacent pairs of duct member preforms are coextensive and engaged. A coaxial outer shell preform is spaced from the inner member.

  • Patent number: 5362344
Abstract: A method is disclosed of making an integral structure comprised of inner and outer coaxial shells mutually supported so as to define an annular passageway between the shells. The integral structure may be an air inlet housing for a gas turbine engine and the inner shell may be a hub member having a generally cylindrical passage extending therethrough for rotatably receiving a drive shaft. The inner shell is formed by braiding on a shaped mandrel a plurality of fibers such as fiberglass, boron, carbon, or the like, to form an inner shell preform having an outer surface of revolution. A plurality of duct preforms are similarly formed on a conical mandrel, then removed, and administered onto an outer peripheral surface of a duct mold so as to define a modified shape.

  • Patent number: 5152141
Abstract: A plurality of accessories operatively associated with a gas turbine engine are driven by electric motors. A first motor controller initiates operation of a starter/generator mechanically coupled to the engine. After the engine has been started, the motor controller is used to accelerate other accessory motors at a predetermined rate after which they are each electrically coupled to the starter/generator for continued operation. Throughout this operation, the first motor controller serves as a back up for a second motor controller which is dedicated to the operation of a fuel pump motor. Other modes of operation can be achieved as well by reason of the flexibility provided by motor driven accessories.

  • Patent number: 4454711
Abstract: A self-aligning fuel nozzle assembly is provided for maintaining the alignment of a swirler member and a fuel nozzle upon displacement of the combustor liner relative to the combustor housing of a combustion chamber assembly in a turbine engine. The self-aligning fuel nozzle assembly mounts the swirler member to the combustor liner by a device having six degrees of freedom including a ball and socket joint which is placed within a structure so as to permit movement in the three main Cartesian directions of a rectangular axis system. The combustor liner is installed within the combustor housing in such manner that the fuel nozzle is slidably received within the swirler, with the swirler being biased against the fuel nozzle by a helical spring member forming part of the assembly. The self-aligning fuel nozzle assembly reduces the development of local stresses between the swirler and the fuel nozzle so that wearing between these parts is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4430907
Abstract: A linkage system is disclosed adapted to be connected between a pilot's input lever and an engine power output lever. The linkage system is operative to vary the displacement ratio characteristics between the input and output levers. More specifically, during the first portion of input lever stroke, wherein shaft horsepower is raised from a ground idle speed to flight speed, the output lever is displaced an amount greater than the amount the input lever is displaced. In contrast, during the second portion of the stroke, corresponding to the upper range of shaft horsepower used in flight, a fixed amount of displacement of the input lever results in a smaller displacement of the output lever. By this arrangement, the control of the aircraft in flight is facilitated.

  • Patent number: 4397431
Abstract: An actuating linkage is provided for use in an aircraft engine having a double door-type particle separator, anti-icing system installed within its air intake ducts. The actuating linkage interconnects the deflecting vane and the bypass door through a coupler link. The deflecting vane is pivotally connected to a linear link which is connected to an actuator link about a pivot point. Movement of the actuator link varies the relative positions of the deflecting vane and the bypass door between ram mode and anti-icing mode positions. The actuating linkage partially balances the aerodynamic forces on the deflecting vane and bypass door so that the input required to operate the anti-icing system may be manually applied by the pilot. The actuating linkage is fail-safe, in that the linkage is operative such that should the actuator link extending to the pilot station fail, the aerodynamic forces on the bypass door cause the deflecting vane and bypass door to be actuated to the anti-icing mode position.
