  • Publication number: 20130007016
Abstract: A cache server prefetches one or more web pages from an origin server prior to those web pages being requested by a user. The cache server determines which web pages to prefetch based on a graph associated with a prefetch module associated with the cache server. The graph represents all or a portion of the web pages at the origin server using one or more nodes and one or more links connecting the nodes. Each link has an associated transaction weight and user weight. The transaction weight represents the importance of the link and associated web page to the origin server and may be used to control the prefetching of web pages by the cache server. The user weight may be used to change a priority associated with a request for a web page. The user weight and transaction weight may change based on criteria associated with the origin server.

  • Patent number: 8345991
Abstract: A technique for selecting portions of a multi-resolution medical image data set to be stored and the portions of the multi-resolution medical image data set to be discarded in order to reduce the overall amount of image data that is stored for each image data set. The selection is based on the clinical purpose for obtaining the medical image data. The clinical purpose for obtaining the medical image is used to select a segmentation algorithm to segment the image data into several regions based on their relevance to the purpose for obtaining the image data. A mask is created from the segmented data. The mask is used to assign data compression quality factors to corresponding regions in the image data. The image data in each region is compressed based on their assigned quality factor. The image data that is highly relevant is compressed with lossless data compression. The image data in regions of lesser relevance are compressed with lossy data compression.

  • Patent number: 8341256
Abstract: A multi-generation distributed control system includes a first generation (FG) DCS connected to a local control network (LCN) including FG client nodes. A second generation (SG) DCS connected to a non-LCN data highway includes a server node connected between the LCN and the non-LCN data highway and SG client nodes. The server node includes a LCN processor (LCNP) board. LCNP emulator software including a server LCNP emulator software component is at the server node and a client LCNP emulator software component at the SG client nodes. The server LCNP emulator software component translates between LCN data and data highway protocol data and adds one of a plurality of LCN address slots to communications received from the LCN for delivery to the SG DCS that each correspond to a SG client node. Each client LCNP emulator software component provides one of the LCN address slots at its SG client node.

  • Patent number: 8334869
Abstract: Method and apparatus for modeling 3-D frustums using a single click-and-draw action. A cursor control device button is pressed at a desired starting point. The user then moves the cursor to draw a curve. When the curve intersects, the shape that has been drawn is saved as a start surface. When the cursor control device button is released, the method may search for one or more other intersections from the end of the curve. If another intersection is found, the intersection defines an end surface. If one or more additional intersections are found, the additional intersections may be used to define intermediate surfaces. The recorded points between the start and end surfaces define the path of the frustum. If a second intersection is not found, the start surface may be duplicated as the end surface. Once the user completes the curve, the frustum defined by the curve may be rendered.

  • Patent number: 8320321
Abstract: A hybrid TDMA-CSMA MAC protocol is provided for allocating time slots within a frame having a structure in which transmission time is divided into a first number of actual TDMA time slots and a second number of “virtual” CSMA time slots. Each time a given node receives a Hello message, it can calculate variables based on an HSN field. A ratio of the first number to the second number can be dynamically adjusted depending upon the traffic conditions. When TDMA time slots within the frame are freed (e.g., no longer being used), slot position optimization techniques are provided for moving these freed TDMA time slots back into the CSMA portion of the frame and reallocating or moving other TDMA time slots into the portion of the frame that was previously occupied by the freed TDMA time slots to thereby maximize resource utilization.

  • Patent number: 8313720
Abstract: In the growth of a SiC boule, a growth guide is provided inside of a growth crucible that is charged with SiC source material at a bottom of the crucible and a SiC seed crystal at a top of the crucible. The growth guide has an inner layer that defines at least part of an opening in the growth guide and an outer layer that supports the inner layer in the crucible. The opening faces the source material with the seed crystal positioned at an end of the opening opposite the source material. The inner layer is formed from a first material having a higher thermal conductivity than the second, different material forming the outer layer. The source material is sublimation grown on the seed crystal in the growth crucible via the opening in the growth guide to thereby form the SiC boule on the seed crystal.

  • Publication number: 20120285370
Abstract: In SiC sublimation crystal growth, a crucible is charged with SiC source material and SiC seed crystal in spaced relation and a baffle is disposed in the growth crucible around the seed crystal. A first side of the baffle in the growth crucible defines a growth zone where a SiC single crystal grows on the SiC seed crystal. A second side of the baffle in the growth crucible defines a vapor-capture trap around the SiC seed crystal. The growth crucible is heated to a SiC growth temperature whereupon the SiC source material sublimates and forms a vapor which is transported to the growth zone where the SiC crystal grows by precipitation of the vapor on the SiC seed crystal. A fraction of this vapor enters the vapor-capture trap where it is removed from the growth zone during growth of the SiC crystal.

  • Publication number: 20120282959
Abstract: Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques and apparatus for operating in a television white space (TVWS) network. One example method generally includes receiving, at an apparatus, a message with a field indicating a current version of an unused frequency spectrum map (e.g., a white space map (WSM)), the unused frequency spectrum map indicating channels usable for wireless communications; determining whether the current version of the unused frequency spectrum map is different than a previous version of the unused frequency spectrum map; and using a channel for wireless communications based on the determination. Another example method generally includes accessing a database of available channels for a current location of an apparatus via a neighboring portable or fixed enabling apparatus and enabling one or more portable dependent apparatuses for the wireless communications via one or more of the available channels.
