  • Patent number: 7740566
Abstract: A wheeled walker for training an individual to walk by enabling hip flexion. The walker is equipped with a pulley located between two anchors points to which the ends of an elastic cord are attached a middle portion of the elastic cord runs over the pulley. A first harness for receiving a foot of the user is slidingly coupled to the segment of the elastic cord located between the first anchor point and the pulley. A similar harness for receiving the other foot of the user is slidingly coupled to the segment of the elastic cord located between the second anchor point and the pulley.

  • Patent number: 7365647
Abstract: An apparatus for training a subject to perform a specified physical activity is based on the presence of two or more kinesthetic body sensors, whether mounted on the body or separately from the body, that deliver signals to a processing system that, in turn, delivers a single output signal. This signal drives a display that delivers feedback to the subject. Multiple body sensor output signals may be combined in accordance with a predetermined algorithm to produce a single composite signal. This combining may be as simple as direct addition, or may include the combination of weighted values of the individual comparison signals. An operator may adjust the weighting values to be applied to the respective comparison signals, and may do so while the apparatus is in use. Alternately while the apparatus is in use, a proportional signal from one body sensor may drive the display, subject to suppression of such signal if the output from any number of other body sensors does not achieve preselected threshold values.

  • Patent number: 7156789
Abstract: A mobile apparatus for assisting a person with limited mobility. The apparatus is also for developing a higher level of mobility in a person having low mobility. The person may be assisted by the apparatus when walking. The apparatus includes a seating surface resiliently mounted to provide partial body weight support to the person. A person using the mobility assist may grasp lateral handles disposed on the apparatus while walking or he/she may attempt to mobilize without the use of the lateral handles. Multiple elastic cords positioned to generate a lifting force that varies according to the number of elastic cords employed provide the degree of resilience in the seat. The degree of resilience may be adjusted in accordance with the relative collapse of the lower extremities of the person. As the walking ability of the person progresses, such lifting force may be reduced overtime by reducing the number of elastic cords employed.

  • Publication number: 20050277528
Abstract: A portable seating device is provided in the form of at least two horizontal planks having respective coupling ends along which such members may be joined. The underside surfaces of these planks are provided with vertical support containment means. Such vertical support containment means serve to contain and localize the upper end of a central vertical support placed against the underside surfaces of the two horizontal seating members, overlapping their connected coupling ends. A preferred central vertical support is a tapered pail or bucket which may or may not have its carrying handle removed. Additional vertical supports may be provided to underlie further portions of the underside surfaces of the horizontal planks, deployed symmetrically on either side of the central vertical support and similarly localized against the underside surfaces.
