  • Patent number: 7688278
Abstract: A ballistic protective radome (10) consisting of substantially longitudinal layer members (14) firmly and densely packed in a uniform array, forming a main protective layer (12). The layer members (14) are mutually spaced apart and electrically isolated such that a continuous gap (18) is formed in the main protective layer (12). The layer members (14) are made of mechanical energy absorbing and high tensile strength materials such as ceramics, metallic alloys nanoparticulate ceramics and nanoparticulate metallic alloys. The surface of the layer members is electrically conducting, optionally by plating with a layer of highly electrically conducting materials having a width of a few skin depths. Optionally a dielectric layer (16) is attached to at least one surface border of the main protective layer for promoting the ballistic features of the radome and providing for impedance matching.

  • Publication number: 20060245709
Abstract: A photonic band gap micro-resonator device. The device comprises an array of regular elements in a surrounding matrix arranged in a grid. In at least one of a plurality of selected element positions an irregularity is presented in the form of two or more elements replacing a single regular element of the array.

  • Patent number: 6897820
Abstract: Ad device substantially transparent to electromagnetic radiation of a certain frequency band is presented. The device comprises at least one dielectric structure of a predetermined thickness defined by the central frequency of the operational frequency band of the device, and comprises a predetermined substantially periodic inner pattern inside the dielectric structure composed of a two-dimensional array of substantially identical sub-resonant capacitive elements made of an electrically conducting material and capable of scattering said electromagnetic radiation arranged in a disconnected from each other spaced-apart relationship.

  • Patent number: 6538454
Abstract: A microwave microscope having a resonant slit formed in a highly conductive end of a microwave waveguide forming a probe tip. A short dielectric rod is fit into the waveguide near its conductive end. A longer dielectric rod is placed in back of the short dielectric rod with a small gap between the two rods. The length of the shorter rod and the size of the gap are chosen to form a dielectric resonator at the microwave frequency adjacent to the probe tip. Thereby, the impedance of the waveguide can be matched to the generally high impedance of the slit probe tip. Preferably, the dielectric constant of the materials is high, thereby reducing the size of the waveguide and probe tip relative to the microwave wavelength.
